Suction Cup Dildo Positions: Where to Mount Your Toy

Since my Suction Cup Dildo Guide—which includes a listing of (almost) all the quality silicone options out there,1—has become more popular, I’ve realized that people are also wondering about how to position their suction cup toys. Where do you stick these things once you’ve bought them? And how do you ride them, comfortably? Is suction cup dildo masturbation even right for you?

Finding the right position can be a real challenge, especially if you’re not as young as you used to be. Even in the last few years, I’ve realized that arching my shoulders back while I’m fucking the wall isn’t the most comfortable thing. And I highly value comfort! So, for everyone else out there who’s looking for a better hands-free masturbation session, I’ve decided to write about my experiences with suction cup dildo positions and sticking places. I hope reading this post will give you an idea of the array of creative possibilities, and which ones may or may not work for you.

Me and the Dildo: Positions

First, a note: I use my dildos vaginally 98% of the time, so this section may not always hold true for anal use.Purple cocks shower

The first question is: vertical or horizontal?

Vertical: With a suction cup dildo on a flat vertical surface (like a wall), you only have two options: you face the dildo, or you turn your ass toward it. As someone who really likes an upward curve for G-spot stimulation, I typically face toward my suction-cupped dildos, and I have their coronal ridges or other texture pointing up, toward the ceiling. The disadvantage of this position, though, is that—unless the dildo is really long and squishy, or has an extreme upward curve—it puts a lot of pressure on the lower back and knees too. (Unless you have a wall cutout: see #11 in the “Where to Stick It” section, next.) I have to angle my pelvis forward and push back from the wall in order to get the angle I like.

I have tried the ass-to-the-wall, dildo-head-facing downward position for vaginal penetration too. I’ve done this both standing up and on my knees doggy style. While I’m standing with a dildo entering me from behind, I feel like I’m going to fall over when I try to get a good rhythm going. Also, the dildo has to be pretty soft (like the softer dildos at the end of the Single-Density section of my Silicone Dildo Firmness Guide) or it hurts me. (Yeah, so I’m kinda sensitive.) And when the dildo is lower on the wall and I’m on my knees, my feet and legs get in the way. Plus, I’m not getting any additional clit stimulation when I have a dildo entering me from behind. Your mileage, of course, may vary depending on your anatomy. Unfortunately, dildo-from-behind is something that I, personally, hate.

Horizontal: Mounting a dildo on a horizontal surface gives me a bit more control: I can lean forward without putting awkward pressure on my lower back. But…getting the right height is the problem when you have a dildo stuck on a floor/chair/desk, etc.!

Keep reading for details about the trials and tribulations (😉)2 I’ve undergone while sticking dildos all over my house.

Where to Stick It

The stars indicate how workable I’ve found each position, with five stars being the best.

  1. On the Shower Wall ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I think this is the most obvious idea—or at least it was for me personally, because I find showers to be a turn-on in general. Aaaah warm water.

So I’ve given dildo-in-shower usage a 4-out-of-5 rating, but your shower’s specific configuration makes a big difference. Like I said in the positioning section above, if you try to use a dildo on a flat wall while facing the wall, you’ll have to arch your shoulders back and thrust your pelvis forward if you want any kind of angle. (The angle of penetration matters a lot for me and my genitals.) My best dildo-on-flat-wall experience lately has been with the Tantus Echo Super Soft because the ridges are so intense, I don’t need to lean and thrust as hard for full-vulva stimulation. I can even kinda close my legs around it (rather than spreading them like I usually would) and gently sway back and forth, and the ridges are still YES.

But, if you’re lucky, your shower might have some sort of cutout, like this. See the fuchsia Real Nude Ergo standing upright on that ledge?:

My knees still get in the way a little here, but this ledge lets me rest my hands there and gives more room for my head and breasts. It works pretty well.

  1. On the Edge of the Bathtub ⭐⭐⭐

In theory this sounds fine, but the height is a bit much—especially with a longer dildo. (I’m not into cervix-punching.) Also, you’ll likely need a stack of pillows if you don’t want one knee to be seriously higher than the other. I can’t ride anything comfortably when my knees are uneven, so I’ve pulled out every pillow in the bedroom for this approach. The bathtub edge is good for bracing your hands against.Suction Cup Dildo Bathtub

Overall, I don’t find this the most-comfortable position, especially because my pillows are too soft and keep sinking under my weight.

  1. On the Nightstand ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tantus’ Alan bends forward well with the Tantus suction cup inside.

It was a beautiful day when I realized that Maverick would stick to my nightstand and give me just about the height I was looking for. With the nightstand corner wedged between my thighs, I’m able to lean forward. I use my hands to push off against the body of the nightstand, so I can control the angle of penetration well with this technique.

Of course, the part where there’s actual firm wood (heh, I know, double-entendre) between my thighs gets a little annoying. I’m not able to squeeze around the dildo as much as I like toward the end because there’s no room. I do enjoy this technique for some dildos, but in the end I’ll probably just pull out my Liberator Wing (now that I’ve finally splurged on one) for real cowgirl-style riding.

  1. On the Headboard of My Bed ⭐

This also seems like a good idea…but nope. As far as I push the mattress up toward the headboard, there’s this little gap, and the mattress depresses. It feels saggy.

Suction Cup Dildos Bed Headboard

Yeah, I sleep with a purple elephant. You have a problem with that?

And I just don’t have the room to thrust; I can’t arch my shoulders back like I would against a wall, because I would probably fall flat on my back. Maybe there’s someone out there who can make this sticking place work, but that person isn’t me.

  1. On a Wooden (Plastic?) Chair ⭐⭐

I find this position overrated. I’m really into pounding my dildos, and I just can’t get any momentum going here. When I’m facing the back of the chair, the edges are cutting into my thighs and impeding my movement. And when I’m facing forward, I really can’t get a good angle. I’ve tried putting the chair in front of my bed to give me something to brace against (and not fall over!), but still nope. Maybe I’m using the wrong kind of chair, though—the ones from my kitchen table are wide and so not comfortable to wrap my legs around.

  1. On the Toilet Seat ⭐⭐

I’m including this one because I’ve seen people mention it before, but honestly it kinda grosses me out. I mean, we try to keep our bathroom clean and everything, but still, I’d rather not fuck where I piss and shit. For science, though, I have recently tried sticking a few dildos to the toilet lid.Suction Cup Dildo Toilet

When I’m facing backward, toward the toilet tank, my legs are too long and raising myself up a couples inches is awkward enough that I stop immediately. When I’m facing forward, it’s a bit better. But again, like in my chair complaints above, I’m just not getting the angle/motion I like. Experiment concluded!

  1. On a Smooth Tile/Laminate Floor/(Mirror?) ⭐⭐

I’ve also seen people discussing (on r/sextoys) buying a single, smooth floor tile from a hardware store just for the purpose of mounting a suction cup dildo on it. Apparently people do the same with mirrors, though breakage might be a concern with the latter.

As you can tell from this post, I totally support safely perverting household objects—seriously, though, stay body-safe with your insertable toys. But I myself have a hard time comfortably using a dildo that’s stuck to the floor. I need some elevation under my dildo, or else the weight of my legs makes my feet start getting really tingly, really quickly. I’ve tried mounting longer (like 8” insertable) dildos on my closet’s laminate floor, and this is OK only if I have a stack of pillows/a shelf in front of me to hold onto. Still, I’m not quite sure what to do with my legs. If you have shorter legs and/or you’re not as particular about comfort as I am, this could be a good option.

  1. On a Desk? 🤔

Someone once told me that they were tall and were able to do this. I tip my hat to this person, because I’m 5’8” with long legs and there’s absolutely no way I’m going to have the height to pull this one off. Maybe this person’s desk was shorter than mine?

  1. On a Door ⭐⭐⭐

This totally depends on how your door is configured, how sturdy it is, and how tall you are. Most doors in the places I’ve lived had a kind of crossbar, like this, with squares around it. That means that if your pelvis doesn’t line up with the crossbar, you’re SOL.Suction Cup Dildo Door

So I could use my bathroom door in the house where I first started testing suction cup dildos (my first was made of PVC, unfortunately). But since we moved, my door approach doesn’t work as great. Plus, the door has to be sturdy enough that you don’t break the “wood” (or whatever kind of imitation-wood material, in my house’s case) or tear the door off the hinge. If you’re a bit violent in your suction cup dildo usage, this may be a real problem!

  1. On Your Washer/Dryer ⭐

I’m joking about this one (mostly), but it is possible. I’ve tested Uncut #1 here on my washing machine, and the testing lasted about two minutes until I got annoyed by the metallic clanging noise that I was making as I hit the washer’s front with every thrust.

Check out the last section of my Suction Cup Dildo Guide for details about how I managed to pull this one off!

This is definitely not something to do if there’s anyone in the house who you don’t want knowing that you’re masturbating.

  1. On a Thin Strip of Wall ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is the holy grail of suction-cup-dildo screwing for me. You better believe that the first thing I was excited about when I saw this bathroom was this strip of wall (see the pic below). (There’s another matching wall strip two feet behind this one, believe it or not.) Thin-strip-of-wall dildo usage has the advantage of letting you bend your knees to really thrust, without making you arch your shoulders back. (Do I sound feeble, complaining about backaches? I just like to be comfortable, y’all.) Still, getting the right angle can be a slight problem with a firm dildo.Suction Cup Dildo Wall Strip

That’s why my favorite toy to stick here is the NS Novelties ColourSoft 8”. The shaft is so flexible, I can just angle it upward and away I go.

  1. T.O.M. mount ❓

Yes, I have mounted a dildo to a plastic storage box before. And again, it wasn’t terribly comfortable because the plastic edges were digging into my legs and the box was too wide. Plus I really didn’t want my vulva touching whatever the box had previously touched in whatever distant factory/Walmart distribution center. But a similar idea, refined, is the T.O.M. dildo mount, which you can buy for like $30 on Amazon when it’s not sold out (which is often).

Some people like these mounts, but others seem to have the problem of this glorified plastic box being so light that it won’t stay put while they’re riding it. This is why you can also buy a plastic tray insert that they call a “weight attachment system,” though the weights…aren’t included. Meh. I’ve never bought one of these myself because it seems kinda cheap to me, and once you buy the plastic tray to put the weights in, you might as well just spend another $20 for a Liberator BonBon. (Though, to be fair, the T.O.M. has an angle that may simulate doggy better, plus it’s shorter, if you don’t like your penetration too deep.) Maybe I’ll try it one day and revise this post if I do find the T.O.M. mount helpful.

Other Ideas

My Silicone Suction Cup Dildo Guide has two other hands-free alternatives that you can use even if your dildo doesn’t have a built-in suction cup (or a hole for a Tantus suction cup attachment). These are a thigh harness wrapped around a pillow, and a Liberator toy mount. I do have a few beefs with the Liberator Wing: I’ve purposefully torn a lot of stitches out of the lining so that I could actually fit my dildos’ bases in it without a struggle. You see, the hole is way too deep for most of my dildos, but not wide enough. Despite these complaints, it’s the best thing I’ve yet found for simulating cowgirl-style riding. The pillow’s foam is super firm so that it doesn’t sink down much under my body weight, and it’s comfortable to sit on/really grind against.

Final Thoughts

In the end, my personal fav sticking places are dildo-on-wall-strip and dildo-on-nightstand, and occasionally dildo-in-shower, but you may find other options that work better for you. Or maybe you’ll be someone who just doesn’t care for suction-cupping a dildo to whatever—that’s fine too. Some days I do love a good suction cup, but other days I’d rather have the more precise control I get from jerking my dildos by hand. (Plus, then I get to feel the squishiness of some of my softer silicone; the VixSkin Johnny stands out here.)

And hey, I bet there are any number of other, creative places someone could attach a suction cup dildo to. Tell me in a comment if you have a good one that I’ve missed. (Any answer is acceptable besides “On my forehead!” Seriously, folks, bruising. 😛)

Have fun experimenting!

  1. I’m US-based, so my guide is skewed that way; I’m probably missing a number of international options.
  2. First-world problems, right?
