Suction Cup Dildo Positions: Where to Mount Your Toy

So you’ve bought a suction cup dildo. Now you want to know: Where do you stick one of these toys? How do you use a suction cup dildo comfortably?

Finding the right suction cup dildo position can be a real challenge (especially if you’re not as young as you used to be ☺). Even in the last few years, I’ve realized that arching my shoulders back while I’m fucking the wall isn’t the easiest thing. And I highly value comfort! So, for everyone else out there who’s looking for a better hands-free masturbation session, I’ve decided to write about my experiences with suction cup dildo positions and sticking places. I’ve also included my best suction cup dildo recommendations, in case you’re looking for a new, comfortable, and body-safe toy!1

Me and the Dildo: Positions

Purple suction cup dildos shower wall

The first question is: vertical or horizontal?

Vertical: With a suction cup dildo on a flat vertical surface (like a wall), you only have two options for vaginal use: you face the dildo or you turn your ass toward it. As someone who really likes an upward curve for G-spot stimulation, I typically face toward my suction-cupped dildos, and I have their coronal ridges pointing up, toward the ceiling. The disadvantage of this position, though, is that—unless the dildo is really long and squishy, or has an extreme upward curve—it puts a lot of pressure on the lower back and knees too. (Unless you have a wall cutout: see #11 in the “Where to Stick It” section, next.) I have to angle my pelvis forward and push back from the wall in order to get the angle I like.

If you’re using your wall-mounted suction cup dildo anally, of course you’ll be facing away from it. (Unless you have a very loooong dildo or are more acrobatic than I am.)

Anally or vaginally, butt-to-the-wall can be awkward. I’ve tried it both standing up and on my knees, doggy style. While I’m standing with a dildo entering me from behind, I often feel like I’m going to fall over when I try to get a good rhythm going. And when the dildo is lower on the wall and I’m on my knees, my feet and legs get in the way. Plus, I’m not getting any additional clitoral stimulation when I have a dildo entering me from behind (like I would if I was facing the toy and using it vaginally). Your mileage, of course, may vary depending on your anatomy. Overall, with one big exception, dildo-from-behind is a dildo sex position that I find uncomfortable vaginally, and a bit awkward anally too.

Horizontal: Mounting a dildo on a horizontal surface gives me a bit more control: I can lean forward (to get a good G-spot curve) or backward without putting awkward pressure on my lower back. But…getting the right height is the problem when you have a dildo stuck on a floor/chair/desk, etc.!

Keep reading for details about the trials and tribulations (😉)2 I’ve undergone while sticking dildos all over my house. Like all sex positions, dildo sex can take experimenting & exploration to find your best fit.

Where to Stick It

The stars indicate how workable I’ve found each position, with five stars being the best. V = vaginal use, A = anal!

On the Shower Wall 🌟🌟🌟🌟(V & A)

I think this is the most obvious idea—or at least it was for me personally, because I find showers to be a turn-on in general. Aaaah warm water. (Yes, you’ll need lots of lube if you’re getting hit by the water, though! A hybrid like the *thick* Hybrid Jelle works well with silicone toys; does not damage them, I promise.)

So I’ve given dildo-in-shower usage a 4-out-of-5 rating vaginally, but your shower’s specific configuration makes a big difference. Like I said in the positioning section above, if you try to use a dildo on a flat wall while facing the wall, you’ll have to arch your shoulders back and thrust your pelvis forward if you want any kind of angle. (The angle of penetration matters a lot for me and my genitals.) My best dildo-on-flat-wall experiences have been with upward-curving dildos or long, flexible dildos, so the toy hits the right spots for me. (My shower dildo choices follow the same pattern as my overall suction cup dildo recs!)

If you’re lucky, your shower might have some sort of cutout, like this. See the fuchsia Real Nude Ergo standing upright on that ledge?:

See all my suction cup dildo reviews for details about most of these guys! (Except Twin Tail Creations Cortez.)

My knees still get in the way a little here, but this ledge lets me rest my hands there and gives more room for my head and breasts. It works pretty well.

Anal is a totally different story. While standing, I can totally get a good rocking motion going, like I did with both Avant Pride dildos. Lean forward, though, and it’s a slippery situation—be careful! The hardest dildo rides are prolly best saved for outside the wet shower.

On the Edge of the Bathtub 🌟🌟🌟

Suction Cup Dildo Bathtub

This is a tricky one: you have to get the right height dildo to use while straddling the tub. Otherwise your cervix will get poked/your rectum will get more than it’s ready for. Also, you’ll likely need a stack of pillows/towels if you don’t want one knee to be seriously higher than the other. (Or, I’m not ashamed to admit I purloined my kid’s stepping stool for this purpose.) I can’t ride the dildo comfortably when my knees are uneven, so I’ve pulled out every pillow in the bedroom for this approach. The bathtub edge is good for bracing your hands against, though.

Overall, I don’t find this the most comfortable position vaginally. It requires some upper-body strength, plus something sturdy to prop one knee up with.

Anally, it’s a bit more doable, though my dedicated butt dildo is a bit too long. Also, if you have a penis, I’d expecting that straddling the ledge would be pretty uncomfortable. Leaning backward is an option (instead of sitting upright/leaning forward), but I can totally see myself falling off the side of the tub this way. Maybe you’re more coordinated than I am, though. *shrugs*

On the Nightstand 🌟🌟🌟🌟(V)/🌟(A)

Tantus Alan Tantus suction cup attachment bent forward
Tantus’ Alan bends forward well with the Tantus suction cup inside.

It was a beautiful day when I realized that Maverick would stick to my nightstand and give me just about the height I was looking for, to ride that extra girthy, curved dildo. With the nightstand corner wedged between my thighs, I’m able to lean forward. I use my hands to push off against the body of the nightstand, so I can control the angle of penetration well with this technique.

Of course, the part where there’s actual firm wood (heh, I know, double-entendre) between my thighs gets a little annoying. I’m not able to squeeze around the dildo as much as I like toward the end because there’s no room. I do enjoy this technique for some dildos, but in the end I’ll probably just pull out my Liberator Wing (now that I’ve finally splurged on one) for real cowgirl-style riding.

I 100% cannot get this position to work anally.

On the Headboard of My Bed 🌟(V)/🌟🌟(A)

This also seems like a good idea…but nope. As far as I push the mattress up toward the headboard, there’s this little gap, and the mattress depresses. It feels saggy.

Suction Cup Dildos Bed Headboard
Yeah, I sleep with a purple elephant. You have a problem with that?

And with vaginal penetration, I just don’t have the room to thrust; I can’t arch my shoulders back like I would against a wall, because I would probably fall flat on my back.

Anally, it’s a bit better, but my feet can’t find the right place to rest. They get squished against the mattress.

Maybe there’s someone out there who can make this sticking place work, but that person isn’t me.

On a Wooden (Plastic?) Chair 🌟🌟(V)/🌟🌟🌟🌟(A)

Anally, this could be a real winner, again assuming that you have the right-length dildo for you. You need a dildo that’ll fit like a comfortable butt plug (TIP: Egg Plugs are the best!), when you ride down on it! Sit down on your dildo, get comfortable, and grind away. You won’t be doing any fast thrusting without falling over, but slower, shallower thrusts are go, as is simple grinding. I personally can’t take too much length up your butt, so I’d opt for a shorter, slightly flexible toy like these Avant Pride dildos, especially the P3 (reviews here).

But I find this position overrated vaginally. I’m really into pounding my dildos, and I just can’t get any momentum going here. It may work better for grinding/squeezing (if the dildo isn’t hitting your cervix). But when I use this position while facing the back of the chair, the edges are cutting into my thighs and impeding my movement. And when I’m facing forward, I really can’t get a good angle. I’ve tried putting the chair beside my bed to give me something to brace against (and not fall over!), but still nope. Maybe I’m using the wrong kind of chair, though—the ones from my kitchen table are wide and so not comfortable to wrap my legs around.

On the Toilet Seat 🌟🌟

Suction Cup Dildo Toilet

I’m including this one because I’ve seen people mention it before, and at first it grossed me out. BUT toilet seats are very flat, and do provide a great smooth surface for sitting on! Depending on how

Really, everything I said about “dildo on chair, ” above, applies here. You have to have the right length, and it’s more about grinding than thrusting. Shallow thrusts are easier, unless you’ve got super-toned legs. It’s also much better for anal than vaginal, IMO! (Especially if you have a sensitive cervix!) The sigmoid bend of the colon—the “wall” you may find yourself hitting—average about 7 inches inside the rectum. So if you’ve got a dildo shorter than that, you can sit on it and rock.

On a Smooth Tile/Laminate Floor/(Mirror?) 🌟🌟

If you’re searching for how to ride a dildo comfortably, without leaning awkwardly (or having your toy sink into the pillows you have it propped up on), then I would recommend a dildo mount first.

As you can tell from this post, I totally support safely perverting household objects—seriously, though, stay body-safe with your insertable toys (and be cautious about lying Amazon vendors). But I myself have a hard time comfortably using a dildo that’s stuck to the floor. For vaginal, cowgirl-style use, I need some elevation under my dildo, or else the weight of my legs makes my feet start getting really tingly, really quickly. I’ve tried mounting longer (like 8” insertable) dildos on my closet’s laminate floor, and this is OK only if I have a stack of pillows/a shelf in front of me to hold onto. Still, I’m not quite sure what to do with my legs. If you have shorter thighs and/or you’re not as particular about comfort as I am, this could be a good option.

Or, you could just sit flat on your butt with your legs in front of you. I’ve recently tried this (vaginally) with the semi-flexible Avant D5 dildo, and it wasn’t too bad. I couldn’t quite get the angle I wanted, and leaning forward puts pressure on the stomach/lower abdomen.

Vaginally or anally, leaning backward puts pressure on the shoulders, upper arms, and lower back especially. It’s a hard position to pull off for very long if you’re into thrusting. If you just like clenching, though, it’s good.

A variant is suction-cupping your dildo to the bottom of the bathtub. Again, if you’re into clenching rather than thrusting, this could be great—especially if your bathtub has a slanted back like some Jacuzzi-type tubs do. I personally think that using a dildo while the tub is filled with water is a bad idea, because all your lubrication will get dried out. If you disagree with me and love this position, then a silicone/water-based hybrid lube might help you stay better lubricated for longer.

I’ve also seen people discussing (on r/sextoys) sticking their suction cup dildo to a tile or a mirror. (Do be careful, as breakage might be a concern with the latter.) Again, if you have a longer toy, this will be easier—less stress on the thighs.

On a Desk? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Someone once told me that they were tall and were able to do this. I tip my hat to this person, because I’m 5’8” with long legs and there’s absolutely no way I’m going to have the height to pull this one off: can’t dildo comfortably with my office desk. Maybe this person’s desk was shorter than mine? YMMV because furniture varies!

On a Door 🌟🌟🌟(V)/🌟(A)

Suction Cup Dildo Door

This totally depends on how your door is configured, how sturdy it is, and how tall you are. Most doors in the places I’ve lived had a kind of crossbar, like this, with squares around it. That means that if your pelvis doesn’t line up with the crossbar, you’re out of luck—unless you can put the dildo on either side comfortably. (Watch out for that dooknob!)

So I could use my bathroom door in the house where I first started testing suction cup dildos (my first was made of PVC, grossly enough). But since we moved, my door approach doesn’t work as great. Plus, the door has to be sturdy enough that you don’t break the “wood” (or whatever kind of imitation-wood material, in my house’s case) or tear the door off the hinge. If you’re a bit violent in your suction cup dildo usage, this may be a real problem!

I haven’t even tried this one anally, folks, because there’s no way I could do it without my legs interfering. This is another one that I’d need a super-duper long dildo (and there aren’t many of those with suction cups).3

On Your Washer/Dryer 🌟

I’m joking about this one (mostly), but it is possible. I’ve tested Uncut #1 here (vaginally) on my washing machine, and the testing lasted about two minutes until I got annoyed by the metallic clanging noise that I was making as I hit the washer’s front with every thrust.

Uncut #1 double-sided suction cup washing machine
Check out the last section of my Suction Cup Dildo Guide for details about how I managed to pull this one off!

This is definitely not something to do if there’s anyone in the house who you don’t want knowing that you’re masturbating.

On a Thin Strip of Wall 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Suction Cup Dildo Wall Strip

This is the holy grail of suction-cup-dildo screwing for me, for both anal play and as a vaginal toy. You better believe that the first thing I was excited about when I saw this bathroom was this strip of wall (see the pic above). Thin-strip-of-wall dildo usage has the advantage of letting you bend your knees to really thrust, without making you arch your shoulders back. (Do I sound feeble, complaining about backaches? I just like to be comfortable, y’all.) Still, getting the right angle can be a slight problem with a firm dildo. See my list of favorite dildos below: all these make penetration more comfortable for me here. This spot can feel amazing with the right toy.

Anally, dildo-on-wall is awesome because my legs don’t get smushed like in all the other vertical suction cup positions—they’re able to stick out behind me, kneeling doggy-style; and I can really control the speed. It’s a little hard to get the dildo mounted at the right height at first; I suggest inserting the toy and then sticking it onto the wall. This may involve some fumbling, but it works out in the end!

Kitchen / Other Counter Edge 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (V)

Eventually I moved & lost my favorite suction cup spot—so adaptation was necessary. Enter the kitchen counter edge, and my new favorite suction cup dildo:

With over 8 inches of length & such an soft, BIG head, the Luminous Stud is my easiest-to-use toy for vaginal pounding suction-cupped. Think I’m going to need a second one of these bad boys.

This very much a forward-facing, G-spot-friendly position because the key is to brace your weight against the counter edge and push on it as you move your hips. Even lean over the counter some, so you get a momentum going. Dildo rides, but without pressure on your knees!!!

T.O.M. v.2 Dildo Mount 🌟🌟🌟

Yes, I have mounted a dildo to a plastic storage box before. (DIY dildo mount, right???) And again, it wasn’t terribly comfortable because the plastic edges were digging into my legs and the box was too wide. But a similar idea, refined, is the T.O.M. suction cup dildo mount, which you can buy for $47 on Amazon.

Most people like these mounts, but others have the problem of them being so light that they don’t stay put. This is why you can also buy a plastic tray insert called a “weight attachment system.” Personally, I didn’t see a huge need for the W.A.S. because I press my weight down onto T.O.M. I have a full T.O.M. review here, including a comparison with the Liberator dildo mounts.

I like T.O.M. v.2 sometimes for doggy-style, but I love it with the Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy self-thrusting dildo! This is by far the laziest hands-free fucking setup I possess, out of all the toys in my large collection.

My Favorite Suction Cup Dildos

I don’t like toys that are too hard when I’m thrusting hands-free. These body-safe silicone dildos are flexible, curved, and/or soft & realistic, for the most comfortable experience. Each is flared, so it can be a safe dildo for anal penetration. For best results, use a good lube!!!

  • The Blush Neo Elite 7.5″ (here): Its long length gives me more room to work with, and the soft outer layer is nice & cushy. The other Neo Elite toys (9 shapes; comparison here) are great affordable dual-density silicone too. This is a great anal dildo especially.
  • Luminous Glow in the Dark Dual-Density are so comfortable: with a meaty-soft outside, over a firm core for erect feel. Since my G-spot loves girth, I’m 100% sold on the Stud’s mega-ridge (the largest one; $49.99), but Luminous toys also come in an average size ($39.99) and in a small size ($24.99) that I need to try for sitting on anally.
  • Best non-realistic: The Addiction Rave’s tip slides right in & probes my deep spot, as the shaft thickens slightly, barrel-like. My favorite non-realistic suction cup toy, it’s posable: meaning its core will bend in different directions. This bendable toy is less flexible-during-use than others I’ve tried, so it feels erect enough yet conforms well to my vag. canal. I love the smooth matte silicone finish, and the suction cup lasts for days. 2 marbled/striped silicone colors! 🎨
  • My favorite G-spot pressure dildo: The Pleasure Tailor Triarx is handmade triple-density silicone with a strong suction cup! Read more about the 3-layer balance here: it creates (1) a “skin” layer, (2) a fleshy layer, and (3) an erect core. 💦 Triarx’s 6.5-inch length + strong curve make it one of the very few dildos I can get good hands-free G-spot orgasms from (without a partner!).
  • But an all-around fave realistic silicone dildo is the BMS Naked Addiction Dual. It feels most like the skin of a real penis in dual-density silicone. I love riding up and down, up and down, on the Naked Addiction Dual—but stuck to a wall, its tapered head isn’t the best for G-spot stimulation. I would suggest it more for overall anal play, or realistic sensation without spot pressure.
  • The NS Novelties ColourSoft 8” (here): It’s a big boy, but it also comes in a smaller 5″ version that may or may not give enough you enough length for wall-fucking. ColourSoft shafts are very flexible, so I can bend them upward to get the angle I like. The veins are a little more pronounced and draggy in the large 8-Inch size than in the Luminous Stud, above.
  • If you like ’em big, realistic, and firmer, I would 10/10 recommend the NS Colours Girth. The broad head, skin detail, and G-spot curve are strong stimulating pressure.

Again, remember the lube, especially for play in the shower!

Other Ideas

My Silicone Suction Cup Dildo Guide has three other hands-free alternatives that you can use even if your dildo doesn’t have a built-in suction cup. These are a thigh harness wrapped around a pillow, a double-sided suction cup, and a Liberator toy mount.

I think the Liberator Wing dildo & vibe mount plus BMS Naked Addiction Dual Density Dildo is the most realistic setup I’ve ever found for cowgirl riding. (The Naked Addiction Dual feels so good, I’m like 😍.)

I do have one beef with the Liberator Wing: I’ve purposefully torn a lot of stitches out of the lining so that I could actually fit my dildos’ bases in it without a struggle. You see, the main hole is designed for either dildos or vibes—so it’s 4″ deep but not very wide, so I have to wiggle-jiggle any dildo base in. Besides this minor complaint, the Wing is the best thing I’ve yet found for simulating cowgirl-style riding (and it works for anal or vaginal penetration). The pillow’s foam is super firm so that it doesn’t sink down under my body weight, and it’s comfortable to sit on/really grind against, for both vaginal and anal play. (It also works well for supporting your torso during doggy-style PIV sex.)

Final Thoughts

In the end, my personal fav sticking place is dildo-on-wall-strip for both vaginal and anal. My vag also likes dildo-on-nightstand, and occasionally dildo-in-shower because mmm, warm water.

But you may find other options that work better for you. Or maybe you’ll be someone who just doesn’t care for suction-cupping a dildo to whatever—that’s fine too. Suction-cup-dildo play can be a real workout and isn’t for everyone. Some days I do love a good suction cup, but other days I’d rather have the more precise control I get from jerking my dildos by hand. (Plus, then I get to feel the squishiness of some of my softer silicone; the Tantus Vamp Super Soft and the VixSkin Johnny stand out here.)

And hey, I bet there are any number of other, creative places someone could attach a suction cup dildo to. Tell me in a comment if you have a good one that I’ve missed. (Any answer is acceptable besides “On my forehead!” Seriously, folks, bruising. 😝)

Have fun experimenting! Solo, or with a partner. My sex life has definitely been improved by using dildos, along with having sex with other human beings. Dildos can even be threesome simulating, or teach you to deepthroat with less gagging, and more. It’s a world of play to explore!

  1. Unfortunately, many suction cup dildos are made of porous and even toxic materials like PVC. Silicone is the only safe, easy to clean option for long-term use when we’re talking about suction cupped toys. See my Suction Cup Dildo Guide for a longer listing of body-safe toys. PVC is cheap, but silicone can be very affordable too!
  2. First-world problems, right?
  3. The longest silicone dildo I know of that isn’t big in girth too is the VixSkin Slim, in case you’re needing extra length.

  1. These ideas are so creative! I’ve only ever thought of suctioning a dildo to the bathtub. I actually LOVE the washing machine idea, especially to do it while the washer is running to create nice vibrations! Perhaps one could use music to drown out the clanging noise!

    • These are all amazing ideas! So creative and cool! I am straight man autosexual and I’ve been looking for ideas for “mounting” my dildos for fun on hands and knees because that’s the most effective way to seriously reach my P-Spot. Great article all around! Day off today! Trying all these one at a time!

  2. Bought one for my girlfriend. We were having problems finding a comfortable place to use it in the bedroom. I had a big plastic container of unopened cat litter that it stuck perfectly too. We strapped the container to the end of the bed with a bungee cord and it works great for pigroasting position.

  3. Omg! Love this review! ???????????? Just want to add that my fav spot for riding is the stairs. Sadly my new place has carpeted stairs. (Sad face). But I spent alot of time on the steps of my old home. Place your hands a step or two above the phallic friend with your feet one or two below and lower yourself on for a wild ride. Heaven!

      • I’ve used a 12” bbc dildo on the bed post of our bed. It is glorious. Riding it from behind. I’ve tried the bathtub edge but it was hard to get started and my legs would give out. Using the bed post allows me to take a 12” dildo in the ass balls deep while trying to deep throat a 10” dildo at the same time. My wife loves watching this.

  4. Great article! I was normally using the bathtub edge. As you mentioned, it can be a bit awkward doing that, since I have a penis. I have a strip of wall at my condo and it never dawned on me to try that! It worked great, and is now my go-to spot for using my new toy! Hugs 🙂

  5. One thing not mentioned when mounting to a washing machine….maybe put in a slightly unbalance load while you do it. Might give a bit of an effect on a non-vibrating dildo. I’ve never tried it, but it was a thought.

  7. I’ve found the best mounting trick ever was when I discovered my plastic kitchen trash can. I mount the dildo on the side and approach doggy style. Unlike the wall where your feet and legs impede the depth of your thrust, you can position both legs and feet alongside the trashcan and place your anus to where the dildo can go in to the hilt. From there I just place my elbows on the floor, effortlessly rock back and forth, and let the largest dildos I can take rake across my prostate. My suction cups dildos work awesome but I need to create some form of harness for my Holmes and Bam. Any ideas there?

  14. Thanks for the great article. My new toy arrived yesterday and I sadly realized that I’m not as flexible as I used to be so the floor was no option at all… ^^° after almost giving up on it I mounted it on the doorframe and it worked out perfectly fine (like your thin wall strip idea).

  15. Thank you so much. I found your advise very helpful. After 15 years of only my husband able to finish me I finally was able to satisfy myself with your help. I am way too old to be unable to , and it has been a constant source of frustration for me. I found actually found that sitting on a board I had cut and painted to be a “table” over the tub has become my favorite spot as I can lean way back on my elbows if I want, yet lets me hang my legs down in the tub out of the way.

  16. Wow, this guide is very helpful and informative. My best spot is also the thin strip of wall, it’s perfect for anal play. And as it is an entranceway I can attach another dildo on the wall in front of me and have some spitroast action. I also like putting one on the kitchen floor and one on the fridge so I can ride and suck at the same time.

I will definitely check out the rest of your posts, look forward to learning soome new things.

Probably only works for up and down motion, which is not really my jam. Hoping to find one of those damn walls in my house…

Also. I wish those damn TOMs were still available. I guess I’m way too late to the game… but I did invest in a liberator; absolutely worth the price I paid.

It works incredibly well as I can even wrap my legs around it while thrusting both from the front entry as well as the back door !! I got really creative once and used a skateboard. I laid on it on my back with a thick piece of rope looped around the stand while grabbing both ends of the rope and pulled myself toward the dildo while pushing back with my legs. Great frontal fuck!!

  20. I bought a leather harness specially made to attach dildos with a suction cup base to a chair. The chair was actually a little awkward, but I found a better option. Not everyone may have one of these, but an adjustable weight bench from the home gym allows you to move the seat to almost any angle imaginable. The long back rest can be used to stabilize yourself, put your legs up etc. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

You can make an 90% L shaped angle board that can have the bottom longer end under your mattress and the top can be up and assessable from the side of the bed , use ply wood for the upper and a 12 x 6 bottom for the anchor under the mattress or if you placed a 2×4 accross the 12 x6 you could use that as a Handel and not need the under the bed mattress leverage . Bulky but efficient. Good luck

Also the slim wall was a game changer because i could put my legs either side although because im tall i don’t get a lot of range of motion cause when im doggying its the size of a single doorway, but its heavenly and like you said 5 stars.
