When I showed a pic of the Velvet Thruster Walter to a friend, their first response was: “That’s one imposing rod of butt balls!”
This wasn’t encouraging to me, since I was anxious about these self-propelled anal beads. I mean, I had problems inserting the 1.25″-maximum-diameter beaded Luxe Explore plug, for crying out loud. But I was seriously curious about the thrusting mechanism that all four Velvet Thrusters employ, so I decided I was up for the task of reviewing Walter. What better way to further my anal stretching progress while trying out some fun new technology?
[Note: The pics in this review reflect the original Velvet Thruster Walter. That’s discontinued, but Walter’s shaft shape is part of the Velvet Prime series now—a definite improvement, described here.]
And I’m glad I did give Walter a go, because overall I ended up really enjoying Walter’s series of thrusting butt balls!

First, the Background
So the Velvet Thrusters advertise themselves as “handheld sex toy[s]” with “the power of a full sized fucking machine.” Their shafts move back and forth, powered by the motor enclosed in the attached box. These toys are coated in a silky, fairly soft silicone—but most of Walter’s shaft feels like the hardest end of the dual-density silicone dildo spectrum due to the firm core. The last couple inches of the shaft, though, don’t have that core, so I can bend them like this.
Walter’s size was one of two features that initially frightened me (along with the speed that the toy can move). The first of five anal beads starts really small: only 0.8 an inch diameter. The last bead on Walter Prime now maxes out at 1.5 inches diameter, which is very “average girth.” Walter’s insertable length is above average: 6.5 inches, but you don’t have to take the whole length.
Walter’s 6 possible speeds are controlled by three buttons: on/off on the back of the base (to avoid accidental speed changes!), + to increase speed, and – to decrease speed.
Most Importantly, How It Feels
As mentioned, all the Velvet Thruster Primes have 6 (steadily increasing) speeds. SIX SPEEDS of anal bead thrusting is a lot, phew, I gotta work up gradually!
So, like I typically do in larger-butt-toy situations, I tried Walter out vaginally first. (Don’t ask, that just how I roll.) And the bumps. Aaaah, the bumps. I have a serious love for rippled things massaging the front wall of my vagina, and so Walter’s beads do lovely things for me. The ridges rub internally and also stimulate the area underneath my clit in a great way—assuming I have the toy angled right. (More on that later.) Also, the last bead (1.85″ diameter) is a great, thick size that feels awesome moving in and out of my vaginal mouth. And last, the shaft’s smaller, flexible tip means that my cervix isn’t traumatized.
I very much enjoy having the Velvet Thruster do the work for me. I’m all about fast thrusting, and no wrist strain! (Witness my huge interest in suction cup dildos and other rideable things.) Even vaginally, though, with all this beaded texture, I didn’t use above the third (maybe fourth?) of the Velvet Thrusters’ ten speeds. The size increase between the beads makes me not want (or need) to go too fast.
But yes, this is primarily a butt toy, so I lubed up good and did some stretching (with the P5 plug, below) to prep for my first session with Walter.
Walter’s first two beads slipped in easily. Then came the third bead, also very manageable; and the fourth, which was right about my (smallish) anal size limit. When I finally turned Walter on, all my fears about these thrusting butt beads flew out the window. They really do feel great moving in and out, not awkward like I’d worried.
I have to admit that I’ve never used Walter above the fourth-fastest setting. Even the second is a lot of power for my butt. On these slower speeds, the motion is intense in a good way. It’s so good, in fact, that I managed to orgasm from anal alone (with no addition stimulation) for the first time while using Walter. That was a pleasant surprise, to be sure!
Speaking of good amounts of length… Walter isn’t without its drawbacks, its long length being one of them.
But the Downsides:
Positioning
Walter is hard to hold onto while (you’re using it on yourself, at least) because of how long it is. The distance between the tip of the shaft (when fully extended) and the motor box is just under 9”. Combine that with the almost-4″-long motor box, and you have almost 13″ of sex toy.
And if I don’t hold onto the box, the Velvet Thruster moves backward—away from my body, rather than propelling itself inside me. It’s pretty near impossible to grip the control box while I’m lying flat (for vaginal insertion) or even on my side in a fetal position (anal or vaginal). My arms just aren’t long enough to hold it comfortably. If I try using it missionary style, holding onto the box puts pressure on my back and abs. In general, it distracts me from the task at hand. Now, my arms are not short in relation to my torso, plus my stomach is flat, so I’d be surprised if most users didn’t find gripping the Velvet Thruster’s control box as awkward as I do—if not more so! But, if you have a partner holding the toy for you, the length shouldn’t be a problem.
But for my newly single self and all the other peeps who plan on using their Thruster alone, ever, there are a few solutions to this issue.
First, I was able to just sit the toy’s base on top of a couple pillows and straddle this setup. It’s a little bit wiggly, but not too bad.
Even more comfortable, though, is sticking Walter into my Liberator Wing. This toy mount changed my experience with Walter from “Huh, this feels good…but getting off is a struggle because my arms aren’t quite long enough” to “OMG FUCK YEAH, do me some more.”
Previously I’ve complained about how the Wing’s hole didn’t fit my dildo bases well—it’s too deep and not wide enough. (I never use vibes in the Wing, and the hole is meant to be multipurpose, thin enough to hold a smaller toys too.) But the Wing’s pocket is really perfect for the Thruster’s boxy base—a nice snug fit. Angle it backward a little, or ride it straight up and down, it’s all good. I like the angled method, as it gives me more control over how much length I’m taking, plus it allows for clit stim if I’m using Walter vaginally.
There are just a couple minor inconveniences with the Wing: If you press Walter down into the mount’s hole, you’ll have to reach down inside whenever you want to change the speed setting—a struggle if you’re looking to edge yourself back and forth, up and down the speeds. Also, the control box gets HOT, as in painful to the touch, after being closed up inside the pillow for 10 minutes plus. So be careful.
I can’t be too negative about the Velvet Thruster + Wing mount combo, though, because I love the motion so much. I know if I straddle this setup, I am absolutely gonna come, hard—it’s just a matter of time. Many people like the Magic Wand for forced orgasms, but I would hands-down choose to have a partner make me sit on a Velvet Thruster.
The NOISE
The Velvet Thruster Prime toys are not quiet. The upgraded version here is lower noise-level than the 2017 original series, though: see a decibel comparison chart here. They’re like strong wand vibes, but with a whirring noise as they thrust.
Now, if you're someone who's easily distracted by noises, the Velvet Thrusters may catch your nerves. Wearing headphones definitely helps. Luckily, I'm good at blocking out sounds when I'm involved in anything. When I’m using Walter hands-free in the Wing, for example, there could be a fire alarm going off, for all I care.
Not Waterproof
The Velvet Thruster Prime's body is not water-resistant, due to there having to be a hole to vent air from the thrusting inside. (Air comes out the charging port in the new Thruster Prime base, below.)
The silicone shafts are now removable and can be washed without the non-waterproof base getting involved.
Now, if you're dripping a lot of lube or other fluids down onto your Thruster, the base should be fine still. Just don't submerge it in the bath, and avoid use in the shower to be safe.
To clean the base itself (the black part seen above), I suggest using only alcohol- or bleach-soaked wipes/swabs whenever you want or need to sanitize. (Like between partners, between anus and vagina, or just for thorough routine cleaning.) Just don't pour cleaning solution inside the charging port hole!
Vs. The Stronic Thrusting Pulsators
Let's say you're like me and you really like thrusting motions with your sex toys. Which should you buy: a Velvet Thruster, or a Fun Factory Stronic pulsator?
For overall ease of use (and noise level!), I’d recommend any Stronic toy over the Velvet Thrusters. The Stronic G is a toy that I personally am able to use totally hands-free. Plus I can Stronic away while I’m lying flat on my back—my favorite masturbation position. This is impossible with the Velvet Thrusters.
But the Velvet Thrusters have one huge advantage: the longer stroke length. The Stronic G homes in on about an inch of my vaginal wall and then wiggles and jiggles itself all around. It's a great feeling, but the Velvet Thrusters cover so much more area. I would go so far as to say that the Velvet Thrusters' motion feels more like being screwed by a person. (Except for the fact that only one of the Thrusters, Jackie, has a realistic shape.) Really, I imagine using any of the Velvet Thrusters as being like having sex with an android—who gives you steady, constant, unwavering thrusts.
And if you're looking for a butt toy specifically, all of the Velvet Thrusters are anal-safe, whereas the Fun Factory Stronic pulsating toys are NOT. (Also the Maia Max and Monroe Thrusters—which aren't too shabby at all!) The other Stronics don't have the flare that'll prevent them from being sucked up, up, and away into your rectum.
Overall Thoughts
The Velvet Thruster Prime Walter’s motion feels fucking amazing. I am so sold on it. If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would do a collect-'em-all with all five models in the Velvet Thruster series.
Before testing Walter, I feared that the gaps between Walter’s various bead sizes would make my butthole ache. I didn’t test out Walter's higher speeds, it’s true—those still scare my butt—but I was wrong overall. The beads are so good moving in and out. Also, as someone who likes lots of texture vaginally, I can’t fully describe how awesome riding this thing feels except to say YES!!!
The original Velvet Thrusters' downsides (ca. 2017 Walter) have been really improved by Velvet Co., which is honestly the most responsive manufacturer I've worked with. The Velvet Prime toys' noise level is reduced, their motor doesn’t heat up as much, and they're now available in 4 colors (not just lilac). You do still need to have a firm grip on the Velvet Thruster Prime's bottom for it to keep thrusting forward, instead of jerking backwards out of your hole—you can achieve this by any of: (1) holding the toy, (2) buying the suction cup attachment, (3) bracing the base against anything (like a stack of pillows), or (4) having a partner hold it for you.
In the end, I would definitely recommend the Velvet Thruster Walter (and the other models) to anyone who likes faster thrusting motions but who doesn't want to deal with issues (higher price, bulky non-portable size, & finding body-safe silicone attachments) that accompany a full-sized sex machine.

NOTES
I’m imagining some sort of elaborate custom set up to provide more efficient cooling of the control box. If I ever find a used one of these online I’d probably want to disassemble it and figure out how it works.
