I expected Zalo Hero to be all kinds of bad, just like I’d hoped Zalo Queen would be all kinds of good. I own a few hundred sex toys—but my assumptions are still wrong sometimes. And the Zalo Hero’s swinging motion feels fascinating.
Its product description promises Zalo Hero will “imitate a memorable oral sex session,” and that’s at least half true. It’s not exactly like cunnilingus, just like no realistic dildo is exactly like a penis. But Hero’s swinging tip, combined with its pretty rumbly vibes, actually provides sensations I’ve never felt from a toy before. It’s like 50% cunnilingus, 50% Zumio. (For the record, anyone who says Hero “does feel like REAL oral” is flat-out bullshitting you. Hero is not *the same* as oral sex, but it is good. Also prettier.)
Here’s why the Hero Clitoral Massager, by Zalo, pleasantly surprised me…
Zalo Hero Functions & Details
Hero has 4 vibration functions: 2 steady speeds and 2 pulsing patterns interspersed. I usually click straight to function #3, the stronger steady one, which isn’t bad for strength and rumbliness. The vibes really don’t do it for me alone with the Zalo Hero: I need motion. The magic is in the (separately controllable) PulseWave motor.
This nifty feature is what makes the Zalo Hero’s flexible tip move back and forth, hummingbird-like. They say it goes at 75 pulses per second on the highest speed.1 I can’t verify that except to say that it’s too fast for me—an expert thrusting-dildo-stroke-counter—to measure with my eyes. And the fluttering tip’s arc on the fourth and highest PulseWave speed is a little over an inch, a good amount of territory.
The PulseWave function does make Hero louder: it’s like Womanizer/Satisfyer-level noise. Just slightly noisy, nothing like a really powerful wand vibrator. I may have complained vocally about the robotic PulseWave noise in my Zalo Queen review because the flicking head on that G-spot toy wasn’t doing a whole helluva lot for me. In Hero, the (actually lower) noise level is very worth it.
Hero’s three jewel-themed colors really are gorgeous, especially in combination with the gold plating and the crystal. (It’s “Cleopatra-inspired,” they say.) My Hero is in “Jewel Green,” which is a pretty jade color.
My Hero-ic Experience
“Pleasurable” is the best way I can describe the Zalo Hero in a single word. Fun, innovative, exciting, erotic…these all fit too.
I love motion in my sex toys, but I wasn’t sure whether Hero would work for me before testing. The problem is, I’m averse to really focused clitoral stimulation, instead preferring broad wand vibes and G-spot vibes. Once I turned Hero on and got the PulseWave motor going, I started thinking of the motion of the Fun Factory Volta—a well-made toy that I have something of a personal grudge against. Hero is much better. Its single tip still flutters back and forth, but it feels weighter, less pointed. I believe Hero feels more like oral sex than Volta: see the two in motion in this video.
To be clear, the Zalo Hero doesn’t have the width (or texture!) of a tongue. But the light, flicking sensation of Hero’s swinging arm plus PulseWave motor bear a resemblance to oral. (Especially if you ignore that highly stimulating, pinpoint tip.)
As a pinpoint-stim-hater, I’m able to get the best experience out of Hero by situating the middle of its “tongue” over my clit and having the narrower tip flap farther below. Hero’s tongue has a bullet-vibe-sized broadness for most of its length. I put that widest section over my clit, while the pointier part thrums lower down. And why stop there? Hero can also flutter its tongue against my vaginal entrance, whenever I want to change it up a bit.
I most enjoy Hero with its tongue fluttering on top PulseWave speed and top vibe strength. The shape is easy to hold in my hand, or I can close it between my thighs hands-free. Since this isn’t like a Womanizer/Satisfyer-style air pulsation toy, a seal isn’t essential; you don’t have to be so precise. I prefer moving Hero around a bit, to stimulate more area and feel different sensations in the same play session. Then, the Zalo Hero positively laps at my vulva.
Overall Thoughts
The Zalo Hero is all about the fluttering PulseWave tip. It’s fun, it’s new, and it’s more akin to oral sex than a Womanizer-type toy. Hero’s flexible, fluttering tongue will run for 2 hours minimum: that’s a lot of head.
If you enjoy motion with your clitoral stimulation, I recommend the Zalo Hero. I knew this PulseWave technology (which I found ho-hum vaginally) had to be good for something. Hero is beautiful, and interesting too. I don’t use the word “interesting” lightly, either—I’m too easily bored by mediocre toys for that!
