Tantus Steam Hunk Super Soft Fantasy Dildo Review

I knew I had to get a Tantus Steam Hunk the moment I first saw a picture of the toy.

The Steam Hunk owes its name to its steampunk (sci-fi plus steam-powered technology) inspired design. It kinda looks like a steam train had a collision (or a close encounter of some sort!) with C-3PO.1Tantus Steam Hunk sci-fi dildo gears

Why was I so interested in the Steam Hunk, though? Sure, I have a growing collection of sci-fi dildos, but I’m not incredibly attracted to otherworldly creatures.2 What I am attracted to is texture, especially texture cast in soft silicone.

And though there are other robotic dildo options out there, all in soft silicone, the Steam Hunk was the android for me! My desire can be boiled down to four simple words: “big fucking mushroom head.”

Let Me Tell You about the Size of This Thing

All in all, the Steam Hunk looks overwhelming. A lot of that has to do with the (non-insertable) base, which is one helluva hunk of squishy silicone. The shaft’s insertable length is around 5″ (without a struggle3). But then come the “hydraulic chambers”—which “simulat[e] testes,” Tantus helpfully points out.4

And as for the Steam Hunk’s head, it’s right under 2″ max. diameter. Like many other fantasy toys, the Steam Hunk is definitely thick in proportion to its length. The shaft ranges from about 1.7″ max. diameter right under the coronal ridge, to 2″ again at large final “rung” in the Steam Hunk’s insertable length, above the balls.

In Use

My partner’s first reaction to the Steam Hunk was to say that it looks like a missile. Now, I’m really not sure what type of missiles he’s been looking at,5 but I’m glad for the slight taper of the Steam Hunk’s “warhead,” as I’ll now call it. I’ve found that it slides in easily—more easily than a similarly sized realistic dildo—and then homes in on my G-spot.

Cold, like a robot?

And in this Tantus Super Soft silicone, the warhead is great to squish around. Usually I thrust dildos rather than just clenching around them. But the Steam Hunk’s ridge sticks out enough, all the way around, that I love just lying back and barely moving it. (Luckily for my forearm, because the base is bulky!) It glides in and rests its big head right above my pubic bone. I can just barely feel the first set of double rings under the head, but the next double-circled ridge and the rectangular patterns after that are more obvious. I sometimes even find them abrasive when the Steam Hunk is moving fast. (I suggest lots of lube!)Tantus Steam Hunk texture closeup

So I often like to stay still, with the warhead resting its soft weight on my G-spot, and just feel all the sensations that the Steam Hunk gives me. It makes the pressure build until I need to wiggle my hips. Then, the Steam Hunk’s pronounced head curves forward with my body. As I crush the Steam Hunk’s chunky base between my thighs and rock slowly, I can feel the mechanical texture—but it’s not too much. (But if you’re using the toy anally or are less sensitive for whatever reason, keep in mind that the secondary texture might not mean much to you.6)

And for those times when I do want to power up my sessions with the Steam Hunk, I work my way up to thrusting that broad base. After some warming up, the shaft texture stimulates me in a good way. Though I enjoy thrusting the Steam Hunk, the base does get a big large for my hands when I’m really going for it. (That’s when I pull out the Liberator Wing.)

Have I mentioned how gorgeous this copper color is?

As a final note, it’s also interesting to grind against the two lines of ridged notches at the bottom of the dildo (opposite the balls). Since the Super Soft silicone is flexible, I can fit the Steam Hunk’s head a couple inches into my vagina while these ridges rub against the rest of my vulva. I don’t think the Steam Hunk is really amazing for clit stimulation as a whole, but some vulva owners may enjoy this kind of frottage.Tantus Steam Hunk front texture

Cleaning

My reviews usually don’t talk about how to clean silicone because that’s what my body-safe toys post is for.7 But here I have to let you know that the Steam Hunk takes work to clean—more work than 95% of the other dildos in my collection. The double-ringed ridges really trap gunk, as do a lot of the other textured parts. Use lots of soap and water on the Steam Hunk, and maybe even consider buying a new soft-bristled toothbrush to devote to cleaning this toy. After that, a good boiling every now and then will keep the Steam Hunk safe to use for as many years as you want.

Last Thoughts

The Tantus Steam Hunk is a strange case for me as a reviewer: I absolutely love it, but it’s not a dildo that I would recommend to most people. If you’re not sure you like intense texture and/or top-heavy toys, then steer clear. But if, like me, you jump at the chance to get big, mushroom-headed dildos to stimulate your G-spot/prostate, then the Steam Hunk is awesome. It excels at its goal in life: looking totally bad-ass while making you beg for more squishy pummeling.

* * *

  1. Really, I guess it was a magical threesome with Priapus.
  2. Hence the realistic dildo collection.
  3. Sure, I tried fitting more in, for science. Can squeeze the top third of each long, tubular testicle in, for closer to 6″ insertable length, but I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s a relief to push these bulky “hydraulic chambers” out, for sure!
  4. This seems incredibly obvious once you’ve gotten a good view of the dildo, but the images in the product pics are pretty one-sided.
  5. Do you see any fat heads here? No. All slim, tapered ones.
  6. I hear that some people can’t feel much texture at all in soft silicone? Hmm.

  1. Sounds like you have both the NS Novelties colours pleasures 8″ and their 5″ thick as well as the mr realist large…. I’m wondering if there is actually a difference in the size and/ or firmness between thes 2 companies?

    • Hi, thanks for commenting! You’re close: I’ve tried the Colours Pleasure Thick 5″ and the large Bondara Mr Realist, but the I’ve never had the Colours Pleasures 8″. The toy I do have is the ColourSoft 8″ (also by NS Novelties). The names are confusing, right? The ColourSoft one is so much softer than the Colours Pleasures toys.

But Bondara’s Mr Realist dildos are about the same firmness as all of the Colours Pleasures dildos. The Blush Novelties Ruse dildos are close, but they feel silkier on the outside (like they glide a little better, IMO).

      • I am more so wondering about the size/dimension of colours pleasures vs Mr realist vs ruse (shimmy?) Vs lovehoney ….

I have the colours pleasures 5″ thick, 8″ thick, and regular 8″…. the 8″ thick does not get used too often. (More the thick versions seem to be a tid bit less firm) I agree the 5″ thick could use more length and while I do love having the regular 8″ version, it is at most times just a bit more than what I want in such a firm material

I’m ordering the coloursoft 8″ as I think having the same dimension in a softer firmness could have its place, but if its substantially softer I’m thinking its not going to be a favorite for most occasions.

One (or several) fairly firm versions that measure somewhere between the dimensions of the 5″ thick and the 8″ colours pleasures would be awesome….

According to product specs the 8″ lovehoney and large Mr realist have much more length than colours pleasures 5″ thick, but they are the same 1.75 diameter…. wondering if this is accurate? I’d take a little more girth than that too though….

Mainly wondering if all theae companies have same exact thing just packaged and sold by different companies, or what the real dimensional differences are? Is the listed differences just from different people doing tge measuring?

        • Hey, really sorry it took me so long to respond! (I need to check my comments every day!)

OK, so first I’d say that I do think that measurements on the sites of big retailers like Lovehoney and SheVibe especially are accurate. With hand-poured dildos from companies like Tantus, VixSkin and Fun Factory, there may be minor variations (up to .15″ diameter in rare cases). But with mass-produced toys like those of NS Novelties, Blush Novelties, and Lovehoney, I would trust the measurements.

I actually went for the Bondara Mr Realist in large (it comes in four sizes) because it is 1.75″ diameter (so big but not as big as the larger NS Nov. Colours Pleasures toys you have) but has length to work with than the Colours Thick 5″. The Mr Realist large and the Lovehoney Lifelike 8″ Silicone Dil. are so similar that they may be “white-label” toys: they’re mass-produced somewhere in China and then several companies buy them and label them with their own individual packaging. So those two are toward 7″ insertable length, while SheVibe (whose measurements I trust) says the Shimmy is 7″ insertable.

You’re probably right: if you enjoy how the Colours Pleasures dildos feel, then you might find the ColourSoft ones too squishy. The stimulation is just not as intense.

          Happy holidays!
