Doxy Bullet Vibrator Review

The Doxy Bullet is what happens when a popular power-vibrator company tries to crunch strength into a smaller size. The Doxy wands have a reputation, a fan base, because they are strong. But I would bet the Doxy Bullet will not become fan-favorited in the same way.

It costs $79.99, is high-pitched in very buzzy way, and has two steady speeds. C’mon, Doxy, you can source a better motor than that. These days, we’ve got a 3-speed, equally strong bullet vibrator for $29; or a more powerful 5-speed bullet for $28.

Yes, some clits do enjoy high-pitched vibrators, not rumbly ones; and I’m not saying everyone will hate the Doxy Bullet. But… for the price point, this clitoral toy should have more intensity levels, and it’s kinda clunky to hold. Keep reading for a full Doxy Bullet power rating & my experience! 10% discount code and recap at the end, in case you are a Doxy fan who might enjoy it.

Doxy Bullet Functions & Intensity

The Doxy Bullet has 7 functions. Two of them are steady vibration speeds. Five are fluctuating patterns. Some people enjoy patterns, for a change of pace; more clits seem to orgasm from consistent intensity (a.k.a. steady vibration). So, for a vibrator over $50 in particular, three steady speeds should be the minimum. You can get a $22 bullet with four steady speeds, for example.

I’d rate the Doxy Bullet right at a 9/10 for bullet vibrator power,1 which is not shabby at all. It is comparatively large vs. most bullets, at nearly 5 inches total length—so it should pack in the power of a good small G-spot vibrator, really. (Larger vibrators can house more motor power.)

The Doxy Bullet’s two steady functions are “pretty high-pitched” and “even buzzier.” In a spectrometer (a visual representation of sound patterns including frequency), the Doxy Bullet produces strong spectral bands centered at ≈ 145 Hz (speed #1) and 154 Hz (speed #2). I consider BUZZY any vibrator with its strongest frequency band centered at above 125 Hertz. That means the vibration will tingle your fingers more and may have a whining timbre.

Material & Cleaning

It’s effin’ sleek, the Doxy Bullet’s aluminum is. Like, fashion photo shoot-ready. 📸👗📸💎📸

Its pretty smooth, with a touch of grainy texture. It’s very easy to wipe down, and to wash off. Metal and glass sex toys are the simplest to wash, since lube and fluids don’t leave as many spots / don’t stick to their super-smooth surfaces.2 Just wash with soap and water in the sink, rubbing and scrubbing for maybe 30 seconds. The Doxy Bullet is waterproof submersible.

It’s USB magnetic rechargeable, nice. Let dry before putting it back into its matching aluminum storage tube—which must account for some of the luxury vibrator pricetag. The storage tube is convenient because it holds the Doxy Bullet’s charging cable, so you’re less likely to lose it; and I guess it’s convenient if you enjoy this toy enough to travel with it.

To power on the Doxy Bullet, just press the single control button for a couple seconds. The button also flips through the 7 vibe functions. Press down for a few seconds again to power off. Simple.

My Experience

I picked up the Doxy’s storage tube and felt the weight. Began to unscrew the cap… twisting harder.

The Doxy bullet’s end & power button appeared, atop several inches of silvery metal that emerged. So I took it out of its case: solid and smooth, hefty in my hand.

Then I turned it on, and eager to see how its power would stack up. I knew it wouldn’t be a Doxy wand, and that was fine with me— But this. Hmmmmm. It kicked to life, and I wasn’t sure what to think. I knew I wasn’t immediately impressed.

I mulled over the vibration quality, function #1: Quite strong. A bit surface-level. I could already feel my fingers soaking the vibration.

I hit the button again, for function #2. More potent, giving off a distinct whine into the air.

That night, I got into actually testing the Doxy for its intended purpose: against my clit. I was horny, not having played for too long. So it was…. not bad, at least, at first.

I stayed on the first speed, because I already suspected the second one would be over-buzzy for my clitoral stimulation preferences. I remained there for 5 minutes, taking it in. I moved the tip, tried to get it situated. It felt:

Good enough, but I wasn’t reaching orgasm anytime in the future with this level. So I went up to function #2, “high power,” after 10 minutes. Disappointment ensued, as I just could not get pleasure from how high-pitched these vibrations are. And it’s not like Doxy wand high-pitched, either: The vibes are less robust, less resonant, without echoing frequencies.

Doxy Bullet Vibrator - size vs. Doxy Die Cast, We-Vibe Tango, BMS First-Class Bullet
Doxy Die Cast, with some nicks from over the years; above Doxy Bullet, We-Vibe Tango X, and small BMS First-Class Bullet (it comes in silver too!).

I love the Doxy Bullet’s silvery look. (It also comes in Rose Gold.) The downside is that metal is heavier than plastic or a silicone coat. So the Doxy Bullet is clunkier to hold, overall. It’s also quite long for a bullet vibrator, yet rigid so I can’t easily wrap it around my mons pubic.

I tried pressing its tip harder into my clit. That was better for about a minute. Then I just felt numbed out from the vibes.

I mean, I could orgasm on this vibrator if I was stranded on a desert island and it was the only sex toy I had.

Otherwise, I feel compelled to flip over to other toys to reach climax: I had an Intense Travel Vibe Mini beside me too, that first night…

Doxy Vs. Other High-Speed Bullets

I can enjoy the Intense Travel Vibe for longer, without getting bored; and also orgasm on its first speed. (Even though it isn’t the rumbliest tool in the bed, either.)

But I think the closest comparison is the Doxy Bullet vs. the Realm Silver Bullet. My next few test sessions, I tested the Realm Bullet / Wellness Power Vibe (same motor, different color) vs. the Doxy and found:

The Realm bullet has 5 steady speeds (+5 patterns), and currently sells for $27.99. The Doxy Bullet has 2 steady speeds (+5 patterns), and currently sells for $79.99.

That’s a $52 difference, and the Realm Bullet is absolutely as strong as the Doxy Bullet—plus smaller. The lower start (first speed is right at 115 Hz, less-pitched than the Doxy) is more fun for me, for sure. But the Realm Bullet’s disadvantage? Hard-to-press control buttons. You gotta dig in, to get it to change speeds; and it’s easy to confuse the (+) button and the (-) button.

Other options: How much flex do you like? Plenty of people do enjoy hard clitoral pressure, or even require it to orgasm. Is that you, or are you like me: A fan of smooth, soft touches; and rubbing or caresses—not hard & pointy things?! “Flexible” feels “more natural” to me personally, so my favorite bullet is the Pillow Talk Racy. It’s less powerful than the Doxy Bullet, but it has a fully adjustable speed range (*love love love* 💗) and offers my clit a gentle & rumbly warmup. Best of all, the Racy’s curved tip nestles right under my clit as I jerk the “shaft” of the Racy’s handle, above. Because I like rubbing off my vibrators!

Or, similarly, for a bigger flexible vibe that’s even stronger than the Doxy Bullet and that vibrates all down my vulva, I’m loving the Powerhouse Vibe. Its name is no misnomer.

In the end, I’d meant to go back and try again the one pattern I didn’t dislike in the Doxy Bullet – in fact, the one vibration function that struck me as not intensely irritating. (Even though I couldn’t see myself orgasming on it either.) However, my subconscious mind seems to have kicked in and made me put my Doxy Bullet somewhere where I cannot find it. Not in my drying shelf, not in my frequently-used pile, not in my “new toys to test” dresser space, not in my bullet vibrator drawer, not in my photo shoot area either. Indeed, my brain seems to hidden this silver bullet from me, knowing how much I dislike the thing. I’ve walked around my rooms, unavoidably uttering a string of F bombs to myself as I try to locate this much-disliked product that I’ve used only four times, yet developed a certain hatred for. Oops. Maybe it’ll turn up soon. Probably. But I’m not losing any sleep over it. 🤭

Doxy Bullet Recap & Ranking

The Doxy Bullet’s one big advantage, to me: It looks hella sexy. The gleaming silver color. And another positive: the button control is simple. It’s easy to turn on, and change speeds with. Plus, it is strong among the playing field of bullet vibrators—as long as you’re not expecting it to compete with real heavyweights, like its big sibling the Doxy Die Cast.

My critique: It’s buzzy. AF. And I just have a hard time understanding why anyone would want to pay $80 for a two-speed vibrator these days. Whereas I understand the We-Vibe Tango X being $79: it’s got 8 intensity levels, more speed range than the Doxy Bullet, is easier to hold against the clit (more precise), and has serious rumbly vibration on the lower levels.

And if you’d like to pay $50 less for a strong bullet, with more speeds—5 speeds instead of 2—then see the Realm Silver Bullet; or its purple twin the Wellness Power Vibe.

If you do love metal / silvery toys and are not budget-conscious, then you’re the ideal candidate to enjoy the Doxy Bullet. Hopefully you like a high-pitched, kinda-strong motor!

NOTES

  1. Note that the bullet vibe “top power” ratings are 25% higher than all my other vibrator scales, because it seemed disappointing to have a guide where the strongest option equaled “7.5 out of 10.”
  2. Glass dildos without much texture are really the very easiest to clean.
