Helios the Sun God dildo by Uberrime consistently makes me wonder whether my next-door neighbors can hear me screaming. It’s a toy that I never swap out for another once I start using it, because it’s basically everything I ever wanted in a textured dildo.
Helios was born from my idle comment to Marco, the artist behind Uberrime, that I wanted a sun-god-themed dildo one day.1 He ran with the idea, and three weeks later I was holding my very own Helios, in custom sun-themed colors. Now, the colors were a damn good idea—if I do say so myself—but then I acquired a second Helios that definitely outshines the first.
The purple, blue, and pink marbling of this Helios is freaking stunning. The UV-reactive pigments (blacklight, anyone?) are mixed into an about-8-Shore blend of platinum silicones,2 which basically means that Helios’ firmness is as realistic as you’ll find in a single-density dildo. (My original Helios was in a softer silicone, and I found its shaft too floppy under the weight of the head.)
Helios starts with a big, squish-able head, and then the ridges begin: ten spiraling lines that swirl all the way around the shaft. Indeed, Helios is a lot like another Uberrime toy, the Game-of-Thrones-inspired Night King (review here), because both have a phallic head and loads of shaft texture.
Compared to Night King, Helios’ ridges are much smaller—they’re there to grind on, but they don’t poke out so much. That’s why I find Helios more usable on an everyday basis.
But, though I might be using it day in and day out, I want to note that Helios is a fairly advanced toy. Most people will find the head too girthy for their tastes. It measures in at 1.95″ max. diameter, and then the shaft narrows down, maxing out at 1.67″ diameter. Still, I think thrusting Helios is a whole helluva lot more comfortable than using a firmer dildo of the same size, like the NS Novelties Colours 8″.
Helios’ rounded glans takes up some serious real estate in my vag, and I love the feel of the corona rubbing against my G-spot. But it’s all the spiraling lower ridges that make Helios really stand out. The amount of stimulation I’m getting all down my front vaginal wall, and especially at the mouth of my vag, is incredible because of Helios’ textured shaft. The ridges create some friction: I think it’s great, but people who like smoother, gentler dildos should steer clear.
Helios’ twisty lines are also a great change of pace because they make me want to spin the toy around instead of just thrust. That way, I also get to feel Helios’ corona move from “pronounced” at the front, to “subtly stimulating” on the side, to “broad and gentle” with the flatter back of the head. (I suddenly understand the appeal of self-rotating dildos.)
At first I thought that Helios’ sunburst base might be awkward to hold—there are 10 little nubs, one for each spiraling ridge. But the silicone is soft enough that I barely even notice these points when I’m gripping Helios’ base. Plus it fits well in the palm of my hand. The base has such a holdable shape that, a few orgasms in with Helios, I’m compelled to flip over on my belly and ride the toy while I’m still holding onto it, for deeper stimulation. The base is also large enough to stay put when I’m sitting on this toy on my bed, legs crossed in front of me, bouncing up and down. As Helios’ soft head presses up against my cervix and posterior fornix, the lower ridges still give me so much G-spot stimulation. (Yes, the neighbors probably don’t talk to me for a reason.)
Since Helios’ base is very flared (plus the head is so large), this toy may be difficult to fit into harnesses with O-rings meant for average-sized dildos. But, with a little wiggling, the excellent SpareParts Joque harness’ ring will stretch to fit this toy. I like wearing them together just so I can look at the dildo!
Finally, a note on the price: Helios is a good chunk of silicone, and it’s handmade in gorgeous colors—so its price tag is higher than those of toys that are mass-produced, single-colored, and/or smaller.
Overall Thoughts
Uberrime’s Helios is a toy that I know I’ll return to again and again. It’s my favorite (non-self-propelled) dildo of this year so far besides the much-simpler Blush Avant D5 and D6. I love, love, love Helios’ large rounded head and spiraling lines, all in just-a-bit-squishy-silicone. Plus I just like to sit it out and look at it because of the colors!
I’d unhesitatingly recommend it to people who:
- Are enthusiastic about toys with large heads
- Like consistent texture all down their toys
- Enjoy softer, flexible dildos
- Appreciate dildo art
Helios is probably not suited for people who:
- Want firm G-spot or prostate stimulation
- Are unsure if they like texture rubbing at their entrance (or anywhere, really)
- Are uncomfortable with larger dildos
- Need a tapered toy: Helios’ head is the bulkiest part
