POWER… It’s a much-sought-after quality in vibrators. When I first read Blush Novelties’ claim that no other vibe of this size compares to the “Orgasm Inducing Vibrations” of the Exposed Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet, I knew I had some comparing to do. Could this Blush bullet possibly compete with the strength of the renowned We-Vibe Tango while selling for less than half the Tango’s price? And what about all the other affordable bullet vibes I compared earlier this year?
Let’s just say I was not expecting what I found when I turned on the Nocturnal Lipstick vibe. Here’s why testing it has been a new experience for me.
First, Some Background
The Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s body, like the Tango’s, is ABS plastic, but it has a metallic-type finish that makes it feel slightly less glossy.
My Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet is in the cherry color, but it’s also available in two lighter shades of pink (“Raspberry” and “Dusty Rose”) as well as in a shiny purple (“Sugar Plum”).
This bullet is also slightly larger than the Tango, at 4ā length and 0.9ā diameter, meaning that it won’t fitāeasily, at leastāinto the bullet holes of many silicone dildos. But if you happen to have a dildo with a Vac-U-Lock hole, like the American POP Rebel (review here), then the Nocturnal Lipstick vibe will stay in place there.
The Strength
Back to my main question: How does the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet compare to other popular bullet vibes? Well, the Nocturnal Bullet’s first steady setting (out of 5 total) is definitely more powerful than the Tango’s first. It’s something akin to the VeDO Bam’s firstāand strongestāsetting. And the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s vibes only get more intense from there.
The Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet is powerful indeed, but it’s also not incredibly rumbly. Even that first steady setting, roughly comparable to the Tango’s third speed, has a more buzzy quality. To be fair, the Tango’s third and fourth steady settings do have some buzzābut not quite as much as the Nocturnal Bullet’s third, fourth, and fifth steady settings. (The vibe also has five patterned settings, only one of which interests me. Kind of.) By the time I get to the Nocturnal’s third setting, I start thinking that I should buy a pair of thick gloves to shield my fingers from the numbing sensation.
I should tell you that I’m not a power queen. I can stand the Tango’s first setting, though generally I’m much more comfortable with the mid-level rumbly/buzzy-mixed vibes of the NS Novelties Luxe bullets. In contrast, the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s first speed is…bracing. IMO, it’s stronger than the Tango’s second steady speed, and the Luxe Princess’ third and most powerful. I feel like it’s almost wand-vibe power in a much smaller package. I find myself wishing for less-powerful settings!
The first time I used the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet, I gave up after about ten minutes and, overwhelmed, picked up a nonvibrating toy. The next day I remembered tales of people using the Hitachi Magic Wand through their underwear, and I realized what I had to do. The first time I managed to get off on this bullet was when I was rubbing it back and forth over a pair of shorts.
The strength is so much, I’m pretty puzzled by the fact that Blush Novelties chose to emphasize the portable qualities of this vibe. Supposedly, it’s good for “Use While Driving, Working At Your Desk, [And/Or] Dining At A Restaurant!” I admit I contemplated testing this vibe while driving, for shits and gigglesābut then I decided that I really didn’t have a death wish. And as for the third suggested use, the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet is way too loud to use in public, externally at least. When I insert it vaginally, the noise level isn’t too bad through a pair of jeans. I guess if you were in crowded place you might pull this off without having people glance at your crotch wondering about the noise. But this use seems difficult to me because the Nocturnal Lipstick bullet is not remote-controlled like other wearable, maybe-for-public-use vibrators like the We-Vibe Jive.
But as for Blush’s second use suggestion, “working at your desk,” sure, I gave that a go. And I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking to spice up some boring footnotes. (Academic writing has rarely been so compelling.) Soon, I found myself using the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s third speed through a pad, a pair of underwear, a pair of of cotton shorts, and a hand towelāand it was still vibrating my entire pelvic floor. I don’t think I’ve ever orgasmed through quite so many layers of clothes. This usage gets bonus points because I can rock back and forth on the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s finger-like width without having my fingers buzzed off.
Finally, the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s two control buttons make it more usable, for the most part. Not having to cycle through the patterned settingsāsomething I’ve definitely complained about beforeāis super nice. For example, if you think you might want to go up a speed but then you change your mind, you only have to hit the down button once rather than hitting a single control button ten times. But I said “for the most part” because I did find myself occasionally hitting the up button when I wanted to go down in speed, or vice versa, because the up button and the down button feel the same to the touch. It’s an easy mistake to make, but luckily it only takes a second to correct.
Speaking of the Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s bottom, this is the main place where I think the price difference between it and the Tango is very obvious. The Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet’s metallic finish looks a bit cheaper where it doesn’t quite meet the plastic bottom of the bullet all the way around.
Overall Thoughts
My thoughts on the Blush Novelties Exposed Nocturnal Lipstick Bullet can be summed up in one sound, best written out as: Aaah-urrrgh! This bullet is so strongāwhich is a good thing for many clit owners, but even the first speed goes beyond what I personally can handle (without a barrier!). This is a classic case of “Your mileage may vary.”
This bullet’s vibrations are pretty surface-level, so I would not recommend it to people who want absolutely rumbly intensity. They should go for the We-Vibe Tango or maybe for the FemmeFunn Ultra Bullet (review here) instead. But for those who know they like the you-might-wanna-use-it-through-your-underwear-level vibes of a larger toy, I can see the Nocturnal Lipstick Vibe being appealing because of the sheer amount of power that’s concentrated in its small size. And really, it’s difficult to beat the price: less than $30 for the strongest bullet on the market? It sounds crazy, but I’ve found it to be true.
