Inflatable Plug Sex Toys Compared: We Tested Fabled vs. Creature Cocks vs. b-Vibe

Until we tried out new super-soft silicone inflatable plug toys this year, I didn’t get why these butt plugs that get bigger were so much of a thing. But the soft — fleshy, even — body-safe material made a huge difference in my interest and enjoyment. Now, I totally get why wearing an inflatable plug sex toy is a massive turn-on, and a fun filler-upper that actually improves my self-care clitoral sessions. My partner and I got to thoroughly test out 7 different inflatable plug sex toys over the past 3 months to find what works, and what doesn’t.

Pros & Cons of Inflatable Toys

First, what is an inflatable sex toy? An inflatable sex toy can be pumped up to make it bigger — either through a squeeze-ball pump (common) or other air-drawing mechanism (uncommon).

Why use an inflatable plug? Versus a standard butt plug or vaginal plug, an inflatable plug lets you opt for more fullness choices in one purchase.

Pros:

  • Equivalent to owning 5–10 different-sized plugs: Variable girth and length.
  • Tiny size increases are safer: less than +0.1″ width per squeeze.
  • Some inflatable plugs are made in super-soft silicone, which feels cushier.
  • Expanding, full feeling can help with arousal & interest in sex, and with making G-spot / P-spot stimulation more intense.

Cons:

  • Less easy to wear long-term vs. ergonomic non-inflatable plugs.
  • Some designs include a thinner silicone shell, which could burst if extragantly overpumped.

This type of expanding sex toy is best for people who know they enjoy sizing up (whether anal stretching or vaginal stretching). Or, a smaller inflatable is a one-stop option for folks who are curious about bigger toys & don’t want to make a non-returnable mistake by accidentally purchasing a toy they can’t fit in comfortably.

Best vs. Worst Inflatable Plugs, Body-Safe Silicone

We focused on these criteria when rating the 7 inflatable plugs we tested, 6+ times per silicone toy: 1.) Comfortable feel, 2.) Ease of use and expansion, 3.) Silicone thickness, 4.) Satisfying shape.

The best inflatables in our testing:

Not bad, not the best:

Worst inflation:

  • b-Vibe Expand only expands 0.13″ in diameter on the strongest inflation setting. This miniscule increase makes it really only a functional prostate vibrator, not a serious inflatable butt plug.

Easiest for Size Training: Amplia Inflatable Expander

It doesn’t look big when unbagged, but then… this one gets THICK as you gradually pump it up. Gradually filling up — almost a hardening inside, which turns out to be super hot to feel.

In my tests, the Amplia plug ($44.99) is the best inflatable plug for vaginal use, since it’s comfortably average girth to start, but then I can make it XL and XXL girthy without needing to accomodate massive length too: Amplia is 5.6″ length when it reaches the 2.5″ width / 7.85″ recommended max. size, which (happily) is the exact thickness I can accommodate without feeling overextended the next day.

See how it enlarges: we’ve tested it at 15 full-squeeze pumps before it hits the max., and I’m already seriously feeling the girth @ only 6 squeezes in – after that, the fullness really gets cranked up.

4 still shots in order of a bright blue plug increasing in size, with hand-squeeze ball pump to right side
4 views of how the Amplia plug will inflate from 1.55″ to 2.5″ diameter.

You can also detach the tube so it’s not in the way of other play; you just quickly unscrew the tubing connector counterclockwise. The best experience I’ve tested is to expand the Amplia plug until my brain is sending “omg omg omg” aroused signals, then use a favorite strong wand vibrator. Then, the extra fullness makes clit orgasm like, 3 times more intense.

Best Knotted Shape: Azuryn

This ultra-blue plug with a knot is partner’s #1 for anal usage. He says the knot “really packs a punch” since it starts at a girthy size – but also, in 3/5 knotted dildo comparison test sessions, he thinks it’s better than a pure super-soft plug because you feel the whole toy more:

The Azuryn’s shaft bends less, so it feels more erect and more present all the time. He can pick whether to go uninflated — just feeling the knot’s bulge — or to pump up the shaft so it heads towards the toy’s 10″ (ten inch!) max. circumference. Realistically, he thinks he’s reached about 8 inch circumference / 2.55″ diameter; that’s a safe step-up from his normal largest-wear plug, the Egg Plug SuperSoft size L/XL, at 7.3″ max. circumference.

Split dual-image view of the uninflated vs. bulging inflated size of blue Azuryn silicone plug, over hexagonal pattern decorative pillow, with reviewer's thumb and first finger surrounding knot
The Azuryn plug’s shape starts out knotted (left) and works as a plain wearable butt plug, or its textured shaft can be inflated pump-by-pump to the size at right.

I would classify his anal experience now as a “solid intermediate level” – meaning, he’s been around the block quite a few times, but is not a size queen. That’s important because the Azuryn is not a beginner-friendly size: you would not want to choose this inflatable plug if you’re new to anal dildos. Before any expansion, its knot is a large stretch at over 2″ diameter (2.15″, to be exact).

Tip: Anal expansion is not far from building muscles at the gym: you gotta go in progressive steps & avoid going too big, too fast (and take occasional breaks!) to avoid injury. Since each squeeze of the pump adds less than 0.1″ inch width, getting stretched by an inflatable is less stressful on the muscles if you proceed slowly.

Widely Distributed (But Firmer Silicone): Creature Cocks Inflatables

We tried out the Creatures Cocks Astro plug by XR Brands 2 months ago before we got the Amplia and Azuryn by Fabled Toys: I vaginally, and my partner for anal testing.

Overall, this knotted inflatable is not bad, but its has a slicker & more rubbery surface. That makes it feel more synthetic / plasticky when I’ve used it vaginally. The manufacturer’s photos also hugely oversaturate the colors; IRL it’s a more faded pink and purple vs. the stock images. And most important, the silicone is 1 Shore A point higher, so it feels less squishy — and the knot, less cozy overall.

side by side view of Creature Cocks pink to light purple Astro plug vs. Fabled toys Azuryn royal blue inflatable fantasy plugs showing different attachment types for the black silicone tubing, and different textured designs, over blue sheet background

The Creature Cocks inflatable toys use a metal needle (like in a standard bike tire inflatable pump) to attach the tubing and pump, versus the Fabled inflatable toys and CalExotics Weighted Inflatable using a needle-free twist connector. Although the Astro’s base includes a solid firmer silicone ring to surround the metal needle, it’s a minor mental hurdle to leap if you have any fear of metal points.

My tests found that the Astro’s sized-up feel is decently expansive; but overall, I keep returning to how its silicone seems less plush.

I was very open to Creature Cocks maybe producing something noteworthy in their inflatable plugs, but this turned out to be a repeat of my previous Creature Cocks review: where the toy wasn’t awful, but it was harder than similar fantasy dildos — ending up in me enjoying it less.

Genuinely Massive Inflatable Plug: Thane XXL

Here’s how big the Thane XXL inflatable plug actually gets, vs. my hand:

Fully inflated black plug with blue-green shimmer next to reviewer's clenched fist, over white crocheted blanket. Black coiled tubing is attached underneath the silicone plug.

OK, so this plug appears essentially, a larger size of the Amplia plug. The Thane plug begins big before ever inflated: at 2.33″ diameter (widest insertable). That means the Thane is really a “size queen”–level toy.

It’s the same super-soft & actually cushy silicone as Amplia, most noticeable in the base. I kinda wish I’d had this plug when I was looking into fist training vaginal stretching toys. The less-than-0.1″ diameter per pump tiny increases would’ve been easier.

My partner liked the silicone here at first, but in the end also found the size overkill for his stretching tastes. Foremost, he prefers the Azuryn plug’s knot for wearing before serious expansion starts. And, he thinks the Thane’s “middle of the plug textures are overdone, could’ve been smoothed out some.” More Slippery Stuff or coconut oil (anal lubes covered in our safe lubricants guide) is needed to smooth that over.

The Thane plug’s size does make waves – its largeness may be too “choppy waters” for folks who aren’t into pushing their size limits.

I had tested it vaginally first, and find The Thane’s 6.15″ insertable length too long to sit on it as a plug (the plug “neck” always pokes out). It gets much longer than other inflatable plugs, at 8.15″ insertable. As minor size nobility, we wonder how the ballooning size could well suit the curves of anyone’s rectum heading into the sigmoid bend of the colon — but neither of us was able to manage the full massiveness of this inflating sex toy.

Smooth, Uniform Inflation: CalExotics Weighted Inflatable Plug

The rolling weighted ball in this one is fun, and different. The CalExotics Weighted Inflated is rounded globe, very texture, so it offers smooth & uniform expansion.

Dual views of black plug with hand over squeeze-ball pump, mostly inflated; then with fully inflated size over palm of reviewer's hand with all 5 fingers spread open. Both views over sage green ottoman background.
Weighted Inflatable Plug L dual views of fully inflated size vs. hand

It’s fairly short (3.25″ length pre-inflation), so we felt the width stretching, but it’s not a deeper toy. That’s fine for vaginal wear.

We did find the tubing connection to be the least secure for this one: the hose will easily pop off as you’re trying to insert the plug, so you have to fiddle with it again and hope it stays in place. (It does not screw on tightly, and is easy to accidentally detach.)

The plug’s silicone is one of the 2 thinnest options, feeling like a balloon once it’s inflated over 2″ diameter. The air-pressure pumps up more with each squeeze vs. the Fabled plugs, so it’s only 3 squeezes before the silicone feels thin. It should be fine if you’re doing 5 pumps or less — but we do not recommend this toy for intense stretching, only for mild stretching and then wearing to feel the weighted bead roll around inside.

Vibrating but Less Satisfying Shape: Atomic Plug as a Vaginal Inflatable

I had started out my inflatable plug journey 3 years ago with the Atomic Inflatable Plug. In contrast with these super-soft silicone choices we have now, the Atomic’s semi-soft body is less fun internally. The silicone cover is less thick, so it feels cheaper; and the 2 “wings” to the right and left of the inflatable balloon provide less sensation vs. the fantasy molds and semi-realistic “leave-in dildo” plugs like the Amplia and Azuryn.

The Atomic Inflatable (left) has a smaller initial inflatable bulb size surrounded by silicone “wings” that transmit vibration, vs. the overall rounded shape of the Weighted Inflatable plug.

Unlike most other inflatable toys, though, this one has vibration embedded in the base. The vibration is fairly buzzy and flat, so it adds something, but it is not a massive turn-on for my body.

Critical about strong & resonant vibration? Absolutely, that’s me! See our Strongest Vibrators Guide for full info on how we judge vibe quality.

My best pussy plug guide has now been updated for later 2026 to reflect these new options that perform better. No surprise that a softer silicone dildo firmness has proven to be more comfortable here, too.

Firm Prostate Vibration, but Poorly Inflatable: b-Vibe Expand

An inflatable prostate toy? Hmmm – it sounded so promising in theory, but turned out to be just a buzzy P-spot vibe in reality.

The first tell: This is the only inflatable sex toy we’ve found that does not include tubing and a squeeze-ball.

Instead, it’s an automatic button press that slightly deflates the plug’s bulb initially, then a second later, makes it… marginally bigger. Like, we’re talking 0.05″ increase at the most-inflating level. That means, just one-twentieth of an inch wider, maximum, with each step-up. There are 3 total inflation levels, then 2 patterns of off-and-on inflation. We had to read the manual to make sure we weren’t missing something about how to make this inflate more – nope, this is how large it can get:

Strongest inflation setting of b Vibe Expand butt plug GIF showing full range of inflation vs. size of 1 thin finger

Uninflated, the plug’s maximum diameter is 1.67 inch, and on top inflation (function #3), it’s 1.80 inch – making it about ⅛ an inch total expansion. That’s makes the name “Expand” for this plug rather ironic, when you weigh it against every other inflatable sex toy we tested having at least a full inch diameter’s worth of expanding possibilities.

The vibration is high-pitched in an annoying way, I found upon testing it vaginally first. When passed to my partner for anal testing, he thoughts, “You can hardly feel the inflating, like it’s starting to get bigger but then it really ineffective. The prostate pressure point is OK, but the location is not exactly right for me and it’s not adjustable. It’s hard to sit on and I can definitely feel the vibration, but it also does do much for me.” We both honestly struggled to meet the 6-different-sessions testing criteria for this one, because neither of us enjoys the b-Vibe Expand.

Inflatable Plug Safety

We’ll cover two facets of safe inflatable plug use: 1. Experience level safety, versus 2. overinflation safety.

Gauge Your Personal Experience Level

Inflatable plugs with a hand-pump let you move up slowly – decreaseing the risk of stressing out your pelvic muscles. Still, the initial size of many plugs (uninflated) is XXL, so it’s important to realistically assess how much girth you can handle already:

Have you taken any sex toys over 1.5″ diameter (4.5″ circumference) previously? If not, the Amplia is the best starting size.

3 Inflatable plugs dual images of Amplia's size expanding vs. Azuryn and Thane
With inflatable ball-pump plugs, the initial size can look small — but then can increase to about 2× the starting size (Amplia plug expanding view, left).

For folks with some experience, measure your current stretch level versus a previous toy or versus fingers, measured around via a soft tape measure.

The widest not-inflated diameters of the plugs we tested are as follows:

Suitable for most users:

  • Amplia: 1.55″
  • Weighted Silicone Inflatable Plug Large: 1.65″
  • NassToys Atomic Inflatable Vibrator: 1.65″
  • [b-Vibe Expand is 1.67″ diameter at widest, but we do not recommend it as an inflatable plug for size training due to the small expandability.]

For experienced users:

  • Azuryn: 2.15″
  • Creature Cocks: 2.30″
  • Thane XXL: 2.33″

We both appreciate that all the inflatable plugs with squeeze-ball pump we tried out, let you move up in increments of less than one-tenth an inch diameter – measured at ~ 0.075″ (75-thousandths of an inch) increase per squeeze.

Do Not Overinflate – Stop when You Feel Serious Resistance

If the amount of pressure instead ever begins to feel actually uncomfortable, not just jam-packed and interesting, remember to stop inflating your plug — at least for a minute or two, then reassess if you could or should go bigger.

The thinner silicone plugs are the CalExotics Weighted Inflatable and the Atomic Inflatable, and you do not want those to explode: that’s why the recommended max. for those two is about 2.5″ diameter.

Similarly, all the Fabled plugs – though their silicone exterior feels much thicker – have a maximum inflation diameter for safety reasons. Once the plug feels really full inside, do not keep pushing it to see if you can top out at like 4+” diameter.

We would put 20 pumps of any handball squeeze pump as the maximum that one can feel 100% safe in the plug’s stability.

How to Use an Inflatable Butt Plug or Other Inflatable Sex Toy

Following the last few months trying out a buncha inflatable toys, we discussed our experiences and devised these tips for how to get the most pleasure from your toy:

  1. Lubricant. Make sure the plug is thoroughly lubed up before insertion.
  2. Slow pumps. After a first few initial squeezes, proceed more slowly. This allows pressure to begin to build up, as you increase size a small amount, steadily, over several minutes.
  3. Add clitoral stimulation or penis stimulation once the plug feels very full inside your body. Even light, stroking caresses can really turn up how good everything feels.
  4. Lightly contract your muscles around the plug. This kegel-like clenching is another shortcut to more intense O’s.
  5. Once you’ve reached your maximum inflation size: Detach the plug’s tubing, then turn over (so you’re facing downward over a bed), then grind your hips into a pillow. These natural rocking / thrusting motions can tap into the brain’s feedback loop for “good sex” feelings.

Inflatable Sex Toy FAQs

What’s the point of an inflatable sex toy?

Inflatable plug toys produce size increases & a feeling of satisfying fullness without multiple toy purchases being required. Many users enjoy the sense of the plug getting bigger and “growing” inside them as they pump up the toy.

How different does an inflatable plug feel vs. a normal plug?

It depends on how much you’ve inflated the plug! The feeling changes dramatically (a serious bulging fullness) as you reach your body’s normal stretching limits. Uninflated, a soft fantasy plug in particular feels like a leave-in dildo.

Are inflatable toys safe?

Yes, if used to carefully pump up the size gradually, while listening to any pain indicators. Your body will tell you when something hurts – stop if the pressure begins to cause real discomfort.

How do I know which size to get?

Inflatable plugs with a starting diameter of under 1.75″ are the best 1st choice for people who have no previous experience with Extra-Large sex toys.

Users who know they’ve taken larger toys in the past can safely begin with an inflatable plug of over 2″ diameter uninflated size.

How big can inflatable sex toys get?

The largest inflatable plug we tested can safely be expanded to 11″ circumference / 3.5″ diameter with zero damage to, or weakening of the plug.

  1. Just as an FYI for you, I’ve used a number of inflatable plugs over the years and I have had numerous one’s pop or explode while inside me, it has never resulted in any damage to myself, it’s only a loud pop followed by a rush of air leaving you, so you don’t have to be concerned with one of the toys popping while in use.
