Weighted Butt Plugs: Comfort, Long-Term Wear & Real Testing

Some weighted plugs feel impressive for five minutes — but soon, hard lines or pointy bases begin to irritate (forget wearing those all day!). In contrast, the best weighted butt plugs feel like your ass was made to receive them, as they deliver this deep heaviness that makes weighted plugs so addictive.

After years of wearing weighted plugs at home and out in the world, I’ve discovered that material softness, weight movement, and a shape that lets your body relax make the biggest differences.

This guide focuses on wearability first — how comfortable and how sexy each weighted butt plug feels during real use. My partner & I tested each plug long-term to see:

  • how it feels after an hour, vs. long-term (4–8 hours),
  • what kind of movement makes the weight noticeable,
  • and who each design is best for.

What Weighted Butt Plugs Feel Like — Comfort vs. Fatigue

A weighted butt plug feels fuller and more grounding than a regular plug. Comfort depends not only on raw weight, but on shape and material softness over longer wear.

Already know what a weighted plug is for? Skip ahead to our top weighted butt plug picks.

Weight Style Matters: Static vs. Dynamic Weight

  • Static weight: This means plugs with a solid metal core or 100% stainless steel. Versus:
  • Dynamic weight: Plugs with rolling metal beads encased inside.

Comfort vs. Fatigue During Wear

  • Why round contours outperform geometric shapes: Rounded plugs avoid hard lines & sharp edges that can cause discomfort.
  • Neck thickness & sphincter relaxation. Thinner plug necks allow the sphincters (2 muscle groups surrounding the anal canal) to feel less stretched-out, which means more comfort if you’re wearing the plug for hours.
  • Sitting, walking, and sensory perception. Weighted plugs can help you improve your awareness: Consider how the plug’s weight feels as you walk, vs. sitting flat on the plug and leaning forward vs. backward.

Overall, using an ergonomic butt plug with weight is a gateway into feeling more anally: becoming aware of what’s happening inside your body plus your arousal.

Who Weighted Butt Plugs Are Not For

  • Absolute beginners.
  • Extreme anal stretching fans — super-soft silicone is the best body-safe material for massive butt plugs, as it’s more “fleshy” feeling (for comfort reasons).

You might choose a non-weighted plug instead if you’re 100% new to anal penetration: It’s smart to buy a 3-pack silicone anal training kit to “get the lay of the land” anally first, get used to what feels right and when your rectum is signaling discomfort. How I Review & How I’m Funded

I only recommend toys I’d feel good suggesting to a close friend, and I don’t accept paid reviews, ads, or editorial control. Affiliate links fund our independent testing of 1,300+ vibrators, 600+ dildos, 150+ butt plugs, and plenty of other gear. We tested each recommended plug at least 10 times, focusing on its ergonomics, ease of wear (short-term vs. long-term), and—most important—sensation compared with similar toys, so you can decide if it’ll work for you.

Comparison of core-weighted, rolling bead, and stainless steel weighted butt plugs
Weighted butt plugs differ mainly by how the weight is built: fixed core, moving beads, or solid stainless steel.

Best for Overall Comfort: Heft Weighted Butt Plugs

Heft plugs are a new line-up of 3 sizes are actually unique: they’re super-soft silicone over the heavy-weighted core.

Why Core-Weighted Silicone Changes Everything

Soft exterior + heavy interior = more cushy weight inside and the most comfortable base.

Heft core-weighted butt plugs shown from small to large size
The Heft plugs use soft silicone over a weighted core, with with 3 sizes for gradual progression.

You can’t tell from the pics, but once you feel one of these: the soft silicone is just gentler. 🙌 This dual-layer butt plug feels as revolutionary as a dual-density silicone dildo. I love it!

What Wearing Heft plugs’ Weighted Silicone Feels like for us:

What stood out immediately:
The softness. The silicone’s a padded layer, so my anus fights insertion less than with any other butt plug. The metal core stabilizes it too — it doesn’t fold over like trying to insert a super-soft Egg Plug (review).

How the weight feels:
Present and grounding; subtly arousing. It’s a steady downward presence: You might forget it for a moment — until you stand up, lean forward, or move.

Where it really shines:
Short-term wear outside the house: the weight is a constant reminder. The anchor base is fantastic to sit on, as its safety-conscious “T-bar” design fits between the butt cheeks like it belongs there.

Compared to other weighted plugs:
After wearing the Heft, going back to regular firm-silicone weighted plugs feels… kind of punishing. They’re definitely less of a turn-on for me.

We rarely agree 100% about butt toys. On this one, we are united — the Heft plugs are genuinely excellent to wear. Still, he (my partner) and I prefer different sizes:

Size Breakdown & Real-World Wear Notes

  • Small: Anal comfort object & easiest extended wear.
  • Medium: Balanced daily wear; Good for discreet public wear.
  • Large: Serious weight without extreme girth; better for folks who have moderate anal-stretching experience.
Core-weighted butt plug held in hand to show real-world size

I am into small & easy anal toys, so the size small (1.05″ diameter) has been my anal comfort object to wear for hours. I graduated to size medium and have deeply enjoyed wearing it on a vigorous walk in a local nature preserve: I kept thinking about how great it’d be when I got home & got off, as its weight continued applying pressure inside my butt.

My partner: found size small a lot heavier than you’d expect looking at it, but not enough. He then decided the medium was a good starter fun – but after wearing it for an hour, moved up to size large easily due to his preference for medium-large anal toys.

Versus his previous weighty favorite the Pure Plug L, he thinks the Heft plug is cushier to sit on, and his enjoyment maxes at between 1–2 hours of wear: it begins to feel difficult 3+ hours in. He’s worn it during sex and actually discovered that it helped him both feel more turned on and able to hold off from cumming for 15 minutes longer, I’d say — so that’s a big plus from me.

Core-weighted butt plug compared to larger super-soft silicone plugs
A core-weighted plug can carry serious weight without extreme girth, reducing fatigue. From left: Egg Plug L/XL, Heft plug L, Snug Plug XL.

The large Heft plug’s weight is 349grams, which is between size L/XL and XL of the Egg Plug — the Heft carries that much weight in half the girth, so it doesn’t take so much effort and training to work up to.1

How the Heft Compares to Traditional Weighted Plugs

  • Versus “weighted bead” plugs: Heft carries ≈ +30% more weight because rolling-bead weights require open space sealed inside (so that the beads can move around).
  • Versus pure stainless steel: Varies by size: Heft large plug (349g) is heavier than the Pure Plug large (333g)’s similar max. circumference; Heft small and medium weigh less (–15%) than their Njoy stainless plug counterparts.
  • Versus alternate weighted designs: Heft plug medium weighs +44% more vs. the HeavyHitters weighted plug with corresponding diameter.

Best Weighted Butt Plug for Size Progression: Snug Plug Series

If you want an anal torpedo: the Snug Plug comes in 7 sizes with rolling beads.
The Snug Plugs by b-Vibe have now become classic for extended wearability – it’s down to their skinny necks.

Close-up of Snug Plug weighted butt plug showing thin neck design
The Snug Plug’s thin neck lets the sphincter relax during long-term wear — the key to its comfort.

Why Thin Necks Make These So Wearable

A thin neck allows the Snug Plug wearer’s anal canal + sphincter muscles to close during wear, so that it’s less stressful during wear over many hours.

Diagram showing the anus, anal canal, and sphincter muscles
Understanding where fatigue comes from: outer and inner sphincter muscles surround the anal canal.

Butt Plug “Neck” Defined: The neck of an anal plug is the connecting section between 1) the thicker bulb or “body” of the plug that’s inserted and 2) the butt plug base, which must remain outside the body for safety. Slimmer + sufficiently long necks make long-term wear the easiest.

Rolling Beads vs. Static Weight in Weighted Butt Plugs

When you actually feel the movement: It is fun to feel these weighted beads roll around, but.: We really only notice the movement when the body is moving a lot. That’s versus static (non-moving) plugs, where the weight is ever-present.

Activities that let you feel rolling bead plugs best include: Walking fast. Dancing. Leaning over, then standing back up. Mowing the lawn vigorously.

It’s less dramatic versus a good thrusting butt plug‘s motion: but unlike a thruster plug, every Snug Plug is possible to wear long-term, even in public.

Which Sizes Are Practical (And Which Aren’t)

First: Skip Snug Plug size 1, it’s not worth the cost because the weight is so small & feels like less than all the other Snug weighted butt plugs. (And, we found the vibrating Snug Plugs (review) carry less weight, & thus were disappointing.) Instead:

Snug Plug weighted butt plugs sizes 2–5 compared to fingers
Sizes 2–5 are the most practical Snug Plug options for extended, real-world wear.

His perspective: Sizes 4, then later size 5 have been the best. After having owned the size 4 Snug for two years, he’s moved to wearing it 2–3 times a month while “out & about”: whether that’s running an errand (the rolly beads are exciting) or going to the gym — where he’d recommend it while using a weight-stack type machine, but not free weights (because for safety, you really don’t want to be distracted while lifting free weights).

Her perspective: Sizes 2 & 3 were interesting trials, but not my favorites; I wore each about 8 times over several months. (My original Snug Plug review.) The rolly beads are nifty when moving my hips. But if I’m sitting still? I don’t notice them at all. My final judgment now: I prefer less boxy plugs, the lines at the top of the Snug Plug’s cylinder are less great for my sensitive butt – I prefer the other 2 weighted plugs in this guide most.

We agree: The Snug Plug size 5 is the last size that’s functional to wear around: sizes 6 and 7 were impractical for us; and we can’t imagine anyone wearing size 7 long-term* without damage. *Meaning: for more than 4 hours of extended wear.

Snug Plug Design Origins (WMCBP “Adaptation”)

Fact: the original design for this plug was taken (or appropriated, or lifted, or “stolen” depending on how one wants to phrase it) from Mr. S. Leather’s product called WMCBP — “World’s Most Comfortable Butt Plug,” https://www.mr-s-leather.com/silicone-worlds-most-comfortable-butt-plug. The S-Leather product didn’t gain as much mainstream ground because their target audience is gay men, and their product pics are very explicit.

Why the design persists: Wearability + discreet fun result from the rolling beads + thin plug neck.

Similar plug copycats are now seen in the more affordable Levelz Plug 3-Pack, which is like the Snug Plug sizes 2, 3, and 4 for 74% less cost.

Then, XR Brands took & slightly modified the design to make the smooth-topped HeavyHitters plugs. The bases are more pointy on these. Within five minutes, the base was poking the back of my vaginal opening every time I sat down — enough to kill any desire to keep wearing it. Not to mention, it’s only 87 grams heavy. TL;DR: These “HeavyHitters” plugs seem ironically named, since they carry less weight by circumference than any other weighty butt plug we’ve tested.

Pointed bases can dig in during wear — causing fatigue & irritation.

Overall Comfort, Snug Weighted Plug

My partner firmly enjoyed the Snug Plug 4 in his anal training, and thinks the size 5 is wearable now too. The size 6 and size 7 are too extreme to be practical for real-world wear out-and-about.

Snug Plug 4 is his top pick for anyone who’s not an anal noob — it’s a good balance between heavier-weight and not-XXL size.

For my body, the Snugs’ boxier shape is harder to wear — my ass never fully relaxes around them. I got up to size 3 before I decided my (expansion-averse ass wasn’t up for more. The Snug Plug has occasionally entertained me as I did chores while wearing its moving beads. Instead I prefer Heft plugs size small & medium, and Njoy Pure Plug medium for most weighty + least stressful butt plug wear.

Best Classic Heavy Weighted Plug: Njoy Pure Plug

For 15 years, the Pure Plugs have been the classic heavy-metal butt plug. They’re premium 316 stainless steel, and you do feel the weight.

Why Stainless Steel Still Has a Place

  • Rigidity, temperature, and slickness (“mirror finish”).
  • The “aware but aroused” feeling of steel weight: Every Njoy Plug feels SO GOOD for sexy & secret wear outside the house. The smooth, slick, shiny-ness; the large loop base, smooth & heavy in your crack. They’re incredible to wear — any sex toy forum will have scads of posts about Pure Plug possibilities.

The Njoy Pure Plug line is fully stainless steel – classically heavy & rigid. (Size medium in my hand.)

Curved Weight Design – Our Tests

The Pure Plug is the #1 stainless steel plug in particular because of its curved design. Made as a prostate arousing plug, but good for any gender b/c the Pure Plug will indirectly arouse the vagina’s back wall too.

My partner’s thoughts: He prizes the large Pure Plug’s weight; thinks it is the best full-metal plug. He uses it as a lead-in to active prostate play — an excellent warmup tool, wearing it around his place for an hour. He has worn the plug for 7 hours maximum, finding it an ever-present edging tool when he moved actively; but the plug almost completely harmonized with his rear & began to be less noticeable when he was simply sitting on it, after a couple hours’ wear at his desk.

Close-up of Njoy Pure Plug bulb showing curved stainless steel shape

I think it’s the easiest “date night” plug, and am sticking with medium size: the best trade-off between heaviness & easy entry past my anus. I really feel the weight when I walk, when I lean backward while sitting, or when I’m sitting straight but move my hips. It starts a tingly sensation in my entire “down below” — including persistant, low-key clitoral throbbing.

Overall, this is the most direct contact weighted plug, and the #1 choice for long-term wearability (4+ hours). (Be sure to use a good anal lubricant!)

Loop Base Comfort & Safety

Over-insertion prevention: The Pure Plug has an extended loop to avoid the full plug accidentally getting sucked into the rectum.

I like the loop base: it rests cozily between my cheeks, and is an added turn-on when I’m walking around during Pure Plug wear: its slick hardness is a “well hello there!” in my sensitive crack. Now, I am not top-rated in the booty thicc-ness department😆, and my toned ass still has zero issues with comfortably sitting on the Pure Plug.

I have read just a couple complaints over the years where people found this weighty plug less comfortable to sit on. So, it may be less ideal for very flat butts.

Downsides of Heavy Metal Plugs

The downside of Pure Plugs is that you have to be more careful handling them. If you set a Pure Plug down hard on your bathroom counter, it gets a little indent into the metal’s polish (have done this).

Njoy Toys does offer a lifetime polishing guarantee if you pay to ship your Njoy product to their Massachusetts address, which is reassuring. But in any case, you learn to handle stainless steel with care to avoid scratching it when it touches hard surfaces.

How to Choose the Best Weighted Butt Plug (Size, Weight & Experience)

Your anal experience level matters the most when choosing a weighted butt plug.

Beginners: Solid first butt plug kits (review) typically start a 1.0″ to 1.1″ diameter — that’s great for tighter assholes and definite ease-of-insertion, once the plug is well-lubricated. The Heft weighted Plug, size small, is the only one I’d recommend for anal beginners: it’s that smooth, softer top + rigid core that 10/10 make it outperform Snug Plug size 1; while Pure Plug small is nice, but pricey for a plug you might outstretch within a month.

Intermediate = has worn butt plugs for at least several months; and/or has had anal sex with a mid-sized dildo (1.5″ diameter): Snug Plug 3 for long-term wear; Heft L for 2-hour maximum weight; Pure Plug L for indirect P-spot arousal.

Advanced: Snug Plug 5’s weighted beads (for moving sensation as you move your hips) versus Pure Plug L (for most body-contoured shape that provides pressure to the P-spot). The Pure Plug 2.0 also, for truly advanced play — it’s not impossible to wear around, but it is the heaviest butt plug (627g), best for staying at home and making effective use of the weight pressing into the prostate.

Weighted Butt Plug Benefits

Weighted plugs aren’t about intensity for its own sake — they’re about sustained sensation, awareness, and hands-free arousal that extends over time.

  • A steady, grounding presence that stays arousing over time
  • Increased body awareness and better control during edging
  • Hands-free stimulation that’s wearable during everyday movement

Once you find the right size/shape, you can get hands-free, discreet stimulation while doing normal life stuff (errands, chores, walking): this is the whole point of “weighted” for most people.

How to Clean a Weighted Butt Plug

Body-safe sex toys, including butt plugs, only require washing with soap and water after use. Both silicone and stainless steel are functionally non-porous materials that repels germs.

To wash: Apply any handsoap to the plug’s exterior. Scrub the soap over the plug, then incorporate warm running water.

Washing a weighted silicone butt plug with soap and water
Silicone and stainless steel weighted butt plugs clean easily with soap and warm water.

Wash for at least 30 seconds, allowing the water to wash all soap off the butt plug. Then shake dry or allow to dry on a clean towel. Store with similar body-safe materials (body-safe sex toy storage guide).

(Special “anti-bacterial” toy cleaners are not required, since normal soap removes at least 99.9% of microbes – and washing well with soap and water can even be more effective at removing bacteria that lead to stomach bugs than alcohol wipes and other sanitizers are.)

Silicone plugs can retain a smell if your nose is nearby (like, within 4–6 inches of the plug’s surface). Either avoid getting your face close to the plug, or read up on: How to Remove Butt Plug Odor.

FAQ

What is a weighted butt plug?

A weighted butt plug holds metal inside, or is entirely made of metal, to have more presence as you wear it inside the rectum.

Are weighted butt plugs safe to wear?

Weighted plugs are extremely safe when made of body-safe materials (silicone or 316 stainless steel) and when you choose the appropriate plug size for your experience level. Beginners should not force too-large anal plugs inside their body.

Using enough anal lubricant is key for safety.

How long can you wear a weighted butt plug?

Long-term wear should progress upward in +1 hour increments, with “off days” in place to allow anal muscles to rest and recover.

He’s worn butt plugs for 9 hours maximum, after several years’ training. After that point, he finds that wearing a weighted steel plug long-term is too tiring for his posterior. I can wear the smaller size plug for 6 hours before feeling fatigue.

Most important: Being aware of your own body’s stress & pain signals is essential for safe anal play. This input varies by person, and by experience level. It’s most safe to never ignore pain anally.

Are weighted butt plugs safe for beginners?

In general, weighted butt plugs aren’t ideal for beginners. When you’re new to anal play, it’s important to learn how your body signals discomfort or fatigue — and added weight can mask or distract from those signals.

That said, if a beginner is set on trying a weighted plug: a very soft, small, core-weighted design is the least demanding option. The key is keeping sessions short and paying attention to how your body feels rather than focusing on the weight itself.

For most people, it’s easier and safer to start with a non-weighted plug, get comfortable with insertion and wear, and add weight later once those sensations are familiar.

Do weighted butt plugs help with anal training?

They can if sized properly. Safe anal training should include plugs no more than 0.25″–0.3″ diameter (up to 1″ circumference) spacing from one size, to the next larger size. This avoids overstressing the anus and sphincter muscles.

Weighty butt plugs can also cause you to clench your anal muscles: contracting and improving pelvic strength — which correlates with stronger orgasms later.

What’s the difference between weighted butt plugs and anal beads?

Weighted butt plugs carry more weight-per-gram, and are often rigid so they can apply more pressure inside. They’re made to be worn around, and the best weighted butt plugs have a secure anchor base or loop base design — enhancing comfort when you sit on top of the plug.

Anal beads are long and flexible to be able to bend deeper, even into the colon with some designs. The beads cause the anus to open-close-open-close, etc. at insertion. They offer most sensation when you are inserting them, or when you’re removing them fully.

Are weighted butt plugs easier to wear than vaginal weights?

Well-designed anal plugs are easier to wear vs. heavy vaginal weights. The rectum is a vacuum – it draws small objects in – while the vagina is not.

Vagina plugs are also much more likely to fall out of the body during wear than butt plugs are.

For options designed specifically for vaginal wear, see my vaginal plug guide.

NOTE

  1. It took my partner about 2 years to reach L/XL size in the Egg Plug, which is 7.3″ maximum circumference; in contrast, the Heft plug size large is 4.8″ circumference. ↩︎
