Review: Splendid Gentleman 2.0 Dual-Density Dildo by Uberrime

When a dual-density dildo works, it works. And the two-layered version of Uberrime’s Splendid Gentleman 2.0 has knocked my socks off.

I’ve had issues with a few two-layered toys in the past. Maybe the outer silicone layer was too squishy for me, or the thing just didn’t curve right. But I feel like the Splendid Gentleman is a toy that truly understands my vag. I attribute my newfound love to two things: the bold shape and the balance of silicone firmnesses (something that’s very important to me!).

First, though, let me tell you what really sets the Splendid Gent apart from every other dual-density dildo on the market: the toy’s customizable appearance.

Custom Dual-Density Colors

There are currently five major lines of dual-density (soft exterior, firm interior) silicone dildos on the US market. With the exception of the Tie-Bright VixSkin Mustang,1 these toys are available in solid colors only: usually three “flesh” tones, or solid violet or blue.2 So, while I like realistic dildos as much (or more) than the next person, I also like variety—dildo art, if you will.

That’s where Uberrime stands out: you can request two colors of your choice in your dual-density toy. (There are 16 colors in the listing’s graphic, though I’m told you can request any other color you see in the shop.) One caveat, though: because of the inner silicone core, the pigments in the outer layer are more difficult to control, according to Marco—so don’t expect tight, controlled marbling like in my single-density Night King (below; I’m dying over this color scheme).

Essential Gentleman, top; Night King, center.

For my custom, I chose Crucible Red to Crucible Gold Mica pigments because I liked the chocolate-brown to gold split I saw in this larger dildo. I love how deep and shimmery the reddish brown is, and the gold is nice and shiny. If I had to do it all over again, though, I think I would’ve chosen the tiger-striped gold-and-black coloration! (See the fourth pic in the custom listing here.)

I found Marco’s customer service to be very helpful and responsive—a big deal to me, as someone who’s previously worked in online customer support. (Also, I learned a lot about the pouring process, which is A++ because I’m fascinated by every aspect of silicone dildo-making.)

But on to the most important part: How does the dual-density Splendid Gent feel?

The G-Spotting Shape

I can only describe the Splendid Gentleman’s shape as “classic.” It’s obvious to me that the toy was sculpted with G-spot stimulation in mind, though of course it can be used for prostate stim too. The Splendid Gent’s max. diameter—a little over 1.6″—may not be too far off from average sized, but it has a mushroom-type head that gives it more impact. The dildo’s coronal ridge both juts out and leans forward, to provide just the right amount of pressure for me. It wraps around my pubic bone to massage the most sensitive part of my vagina.Uberrime Splendid Gentleman dual-density dildo head

The Splendid Gent also has a slight secondary ridge under the head. I like it and can feel it when I’m really focusing, but overall it’s overshadowed by the larger head above it.

The veiny lines down the shaft are pretty noticeable. The large center one especially stimulates the mouth of my vag, or the underside of my clit if I pull back a bit farther.

Speaking of insertion depth, the Splendid’s 6″ insertable length matches up well with its girth: a bit above average. For me, that’s neither too long nor too short.

The Firmness

The outer layer of the Splendid Gent is 5-shore, while the core is 20-shore. (Not that the core makes a big difference in the feel, but you can bend the dildo just a little bit. It’s not rock solid.) This means that the outside feels a little squishier than most Tantus O2 dildos (whose outer layer is Tantus Super Soft silicone). But it’s not super-duper soft—that would require 2- or 3-shore silicone. If you’re expecting VixSkin-level firmness from Uberrime’s dual-density, you’ll be disappointed.

The Splendid’s firmness is great for me, though, because the big ridge makes an impact even with fast thrusting. (Whereas the VixSkin Maverick’s head, for example, doesn’t do as much for me.) And in this firmness, I can feel the Splendid Gent’s veiny vertical ridge better than in a softer silicone. Uberrime Splendid Gentleman dual-density dildo veiny texture

Other Thoughts on the Silicone

The Splendid Gentleman has a smooth matte finish in its body, with a glossy base that allows it to stick to really flat surfaces…a little bit. (Don’t expect amazing suction.)

Because it is a handmade, handsculpted toy, there are a few minor nicks and imperfections in the silicone, but nothing that affects the body-safe nature of the platinum silicone. (To be fair, I’ve received silicone dildos with popped air bubbles, pigment freckles, debris, and scratches from much bigger toymakers too; it’s the nature of the medium.) The most obvious mark in the Splendid Gent is the seam where the outer and inner layers of silicone meet in the dildo’s base.

Final Words

I knew after using the Splendid Gentleman 2.0 for only two minutes that it was going to be one of my new favorite dual-density dildos. (It’s a tough competition at this point, too!) I would 100% recommend it if you want a soft-yet-firm dildo with a pronounced head and some shaft texture. The color options are really nifty, especially for the price: over a hundred different two-color schemes are possible, and you never know exactly how they’ll turn out. For only $72, I believe the custom dual-density Splendid Gent is a steal. (And there’s also a single-layered version for $14 less.) Literally no one else on the silicone dildo market does what Uberrime is doing.

If this sounds cool to you, you can find the dual-density Splendid Gentleman on Uberrime’s Etsy shop or on Uberrime’s website here.

Uberrime sent me this dildo in exchange for my honest review. I’ll always tell you when I think something is cheaply made, or when I think it’s OK but it happens to not work for my body.

  1. And recently, in limited quantities, a few other VixSkin dildos.
  2. Three Tantus O2 dildos—Flurry, Cush, and Duchess—are two colors, but not marbled.
