NS Novelties Firefly 5″ Pleasures Silicone Dildo Review

The NS Novelties Firefly 5″ Pleasures is a dildo you can also use as a glowstick—something I had no idea I wanted until I got one.NS Novelties Firefly 5 on black with stars

Before NS Novelties released the Firefly 5″ and 8″ Pleasures, (body-safe) glow-in-the-dark dildos were only available from very small (usually fantasy) toymakers.1 NS Novelties is smart to have begun releasing silicone dildos with previously fantasy-only traits: the glow-in-the-dark pigment that’s the big thinabout the Firefly dildos, and also the softer silicone options of the ColourSoft series. Having more safe and affordable options is always a good thing.2

Light Up Your Bedroom

So how well do these dongs glow? Well, my 5″ is not flashlight-bright, but it’s very visible in a dark bedroom. I can even see it through a sheet. I like to stick it on my nightstand and use it as a glowstick when my partner and I have sex in the dark, just so I can look over and see a glowing, disembodied phallus. Mine glows a light blue, but it comes in pink too, if that’s your style.NS Novelties Firefly glowing in the dark

But now for the big question: How well does it actually work for its intended use?

Silicone Firmness

Realistic suction-cup dildos tend to be made of fairly firm silicone, like I say in my Dildo Firmness Guide. The Firefly 5″ is no exception: it’s made of NS Novelties’ “firm” density just like the Colours Pleasures dildos.3 I’m grateful that the Firefly 5″ has a slight forward bent in the shaft, because a straight and firm shaft wouldn’t provide me with much G-spot stimulation. The hardness of the silicone is most pronounced in the coronal ridge.NS Novelties Firefly upper shaft on tie-dye background

If you like firmer toys plus realism, then the Firefly 5″ (or the 8″, or any Colours Pleasures cock) will be a great toy for you. I personally find it a bit abrasive to thrust quickly; I have to use slower strokes to really enjoy the Firefly. This is why, overall, I like my ColourSoft dildo more. It’s made of a soft and squishy silicone that feels more realistic in use4 and that’s much more flexible. But for seriously realistic thrusting, I’d recommend a dual-density dildo: my favorites are the Tantus Uncut #1 and Alan O2.

The Balls and Suction Cup

All of NS Novelties’ suction cups are strong; I’ve never had a problem with them sticking, and I’ve used them very hard. So I wasn’t surprised that the Firefly 5″ suction cup performed well.NS Novelties Firefly 5 dildo stuck on wall

I was a little surprised that the balls are smaller than those on most suction cup dildos. As someone who’s not a big fan of dildo balls, I was glad about this. The size of the base is very manageable when I want to wrap my hand around it and thrust. The balls don’t get in my way!

TL;DR: It’s a Hard, Glowing Cock for under $20

The NS Novelties Firefly 5″ Pleasures dildo is a fun, body-safe, and inexpensive option. It has the dimensions of an exactly average-sized human cock, with a slightly protruding coronal ridge and a forward angle. These features, along with the fairly firm silicone, provide strong G-spot stimulation.

If you want to see the glow, get one today from Peepshow Toys for under $20 ($19.80) when you use code FELICITY at checkout; or get the larger 8″ version for under $41 with the same code (which applies to absolutely everything at Peepshow). If you’re looking for something squishier, then I would definitely recommend the (also very affordable) ColourSoft dildos instead!

Peepshow Toys logoI’d like to thank Peepshow Toys for sending me this dildo-cum-glowstick in exchange for my honest review!

  1. For example, I have a Damn Average toy whose top half will glow OK after it’s exposed to sunlight. “Glow-in-the-dark” is a bit different from “florescent” or “UV-reactive”: Split Peaches does have some abstract dildos and a few butt plugs that are florescent.
  2. But…one word of caution. Though the Firefly 5″ and 8″ Pleasures are body-safe silicone, NS Novelties also produces dildos and toys named “Firefly” (like this and this) that are unsafe for extended use because they’re made from TPE, which can’t be fully sanitized. I really hate that NS Novelties claims that TPE insertables are “body-safe”; this is a lie. They may be nontoxic, but bacteria will flourish in TPE over time.
  3. See all the dildos in this search that don’t include “Soft” in the name.
  4. Though their lack of a firm core (like a dual-density toy has) means that the ColourSoft dildos are more flexible than a penis is.
